This sounds like they are playing with fire. Information clause or no information clause, lawsuits will be launched over this.

Keep a lookout for VISA/DSNB on your credit report- that's what the flipped account from Macy's will look like. Lots of people are finding the same weird account they have no knowledge of on their credit report.

Not that their whole business model isn't scuzzy, but it's shortsighted to defraud your own customers, which is what this is, in my opinion.

I called and closed both accounts this morning- the woman I spoke to was very nice (she kinda sounded like a southern grandma- I imagined her answering calls from a rocking chair, wrapped in a cozy shawl), and said I'd receive written notice of the cancelled accounts in 7-14 business days.

Serious question here - exactly what is the point of maintaining a "store" credit card to begin with? I know some of them give you an initial freebie or a one-time discount for opening up the account, but I don't know why you'd keep one.

The common logic is that you should keep accounts open, even if you never use them (as long as there's no fee), because it helps your credit score. I imagine part of Macy's trick here was thinking, oh, we'll open all these accounts, and no one will want to close them. But I refuse to be held hostage by my credit score. It's not like I'm buying a house or a car anytime soon.

Because you never know when you really, really, really will need a pink bra from Victoria's Secret.
