What song lyric best describes your mood right now?
Me, I'm in a really good, optimistic mood. So...

and one day we will die and our ashes will fly
from the aeroplane over the sea
but for now we are young let us lay in the sun
and count every beautiful thing we can see

helps matters that the music of that song puts me in a good mood too.

I never thought I'd need so many people

from Bowie's "5 Years".
This will probably change in 5 minutes...

I am the trick... my mother played on the world
seventeen doctors couldn't decide whether I should be allowed in the game.

I'm pretty happy right now.

"Movin' Out came about
Now it plays in a strange place
And my songs are performed by a rock and roll elf
While a dancer contorts with his crotch in his own face
I don't think it's OK that he plays with himself"

Ok, not really, I just think that line from Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit is so hysterically funny.

Jesus, 'pode, those are the exact lyrics I came in to post!

Gonna see my sweet honey bee
Gonna break this chain off to run
Gonna lay down somewhere shady
Lord I sure am hot in the sun
Hold it right there while I hit it
well I reckon that ought to get it
been
workin' and workin'
been
workin' and slavin'
an'
workin' and workin'
but I still got so terribly far to go

Still thinking about Scody's post, and a Leonard Cohen song (Anthem):

I can run no more
With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
Say their prayers out loud.
Well, they've summoned, summoned up a thunder cloud
They're gonna hear from me. . .

Everything is beautiful
And she is so beautiful
She is so young and old
I look at her and I see the beauty
Of the light of music

I'm just trying to live this life of mine.
The more I look the more I'm blind.
And all I ask for is peace of mind.
But all I want is a piece of you.
Well I lost my way today back home from work
the snow felt like dust, I felt like dirt.
Happens every time I start to search
for that long lost piece of you. A piece of you...
It seems last time I was sure of anything,
I sold my heart, I wore your ring.

At least I hope so. I'm keeping right on hoping, as usual.

whoa, Specklet -- freaky!

(I'm having a big revisit of that album at the moment, hadn't listened to it in years and then in the past month or so I've been listening to it every day)

I said breakdowns come and breakdowns go so
What are you going to do about it?
That’s what I’d like to know.

Show me the way to go home
I'm tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it went right to my head

Wherever I may roam
On land or sea or foam
You will always hear me singing this song
Show me the way to go home

Indicate the way to my abode
I'm fatigued and I want to retire
I had a spot of beverage sixty minutes ago
And it went right to my cerebellum

Wherever I may perambulate
On land, or sea or atmospheric vapor
You can always hear me crooning the melody
Indicate the way to my abode

Hugh, that was a favorite family sing-along when I was a kid. Especially on fishing trips.

It ain't that in their hearts they're bad
They can comfort you, some even try
They nurse you when you're ill of health
They bury you when you go and die
It ain't that in their hearts they're bad
They'd stick by you if they could
But that's just bullshit
People just ain't no good

People they ain't no good
People they ain't no good
People they ain't no good
People they ain't no good at all

Oh my, I hug you hard bmarkey.

Thanks, 'pode. Yeah, it's REM. They were the soundtrack to my youth. I'm getting nostalgic over the girl's upcoming first day of kindergarten. Can you tell?

And Hugh, Jaws is an old family favorite. I can't believe my folks let us watch it, let alone repeatedly. We loved to look for the falling stars in the background during one of the scenes.

Thanks, jrossi, but it's just standard-issue misanthropy. I made the mistake of reading the newspaper this morning.

What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?

Shrouding all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...
posted by appidydafoo 16 August | 15:44
deborah, the universe might have left that song-writing job up to you to accomplish. I think you have a good start already.

I wanna be high, so high [pop]
I wanna be high, so high [pop]
I wanna be high, so high [pop]
I wanna be high, so high [pop]
I wanna be high, so high [pop]

and then someone else's voice starts singing:

Brighter than nothing
Smarter than nobody

I don't know why those two songs go in a loop in my brain.

By the cold and religious we were taken in hand
Shown how to feel good and told to feel bad.
Tongue tied and terrified we learned how to pray
Now our feelings run deep and cold as the clay.
And strung out behind us the banners and flags
Of our possible pasts lie in tatters and rags.

Workin' in a coal mine
Goin' down down down
Workin' in a coal mine
Whop! about to slip down
Workin' in a coal mine
Goin' down down down
Workin' in a coal mine
Whop! about to slip down
Five o'clock in the mornin'
I'm all ready up and gone
Lord I am so tired
How long can this go on?
Workin' in a coal mine
Goin' down down down
Workin' in a coal mine
Whop! about to slip down
Five o'clock in the mornin'
I'm all ready up and gone
Lord I am so tired
How long can this go on?
