What I find amusing is that no one in the audience whoops or laughs...they seem to take it as a serious performance. Nowadays something like that would elicit howls from the opening.

I dunno, we have the benefit of 30 more years of Shatner as a pop culture presence, and we have a sense now that he gets the joke and has all along.

I'm not sure he got the joke when he did his first album, though. Of course, at that time, there was a lot more experimentation on records of the sort that takes place nowadays on the web or even YouTube.

Has Been is definitely a great album. Okay, a good album from an unexpected source.
