Who loves Skee Ball? Man, I love Skee Ball.[More:]I spent my birthday blowing $10 on a Skee Ball orgy. We got HUNDREDS of tickets! And I achieved a small lifetime goal: learning to shoot 100s. I had good coaching, and landed four 100s in the course of the evening. The satisfaction is unbelievable. I grew up playing Skee Ball on the Jersey Shore, so part of my fascination comes from nostalgia and the enjoyment of having something that has remained largely unchanged since I was a kid (with the exception of electronic scoring and the replacement of the wooden balls, gradually, with plastic ones).

I decided I want to write an FPP about Skee Ball and am still learning all about it. Did You Know Skee Ball is the oldest continuously operating arcade game in history (invented in 1909?) and that in 1932, Atlantic City was home to the first World Skee Ball Tournament? And that apparently, there has been no tournament since? I think that needs to be rectified. Who's in?
When my family was going to Ocean City, NJ in the summer (15 or so years ago), we had a family skee-ball championship. Everybody got to play one game a night for the week. I made a trophy out of a rock. My mother won, of course. And she still has her trophy.

If there's a newbie team, I'm in.

(Have never played, but always thought it looked like fun.)

Skee ball kicks ass. They have it at a bar right next door to my friends' place on 5 St. b/t A & B called Ace Bar, along with pool, pinball, Buck Hunter, and a punk-rock heavy jukebox. Skee ball makes me think of salt-water taffy.

A few months ago I was working locations on a Miller High Life commercial and had to go out to a warehouse full of game rentals on Long Island. They had Skee ball, air hockey, pinball out the wazoo, a few video games, and a dozen or so of those grab-the-bunny-with-the-claw prize machines. Since they mostly did business with film crews, most of the games were generic and anonymous, but they did have a Cyclone pinball machine in the workroom.

Of course, after hauling the Skee ball machine and a pool table to Manhattan, we found that the bar (Cherry Tavern, 6 St. b/t 1 & A) already had a pool table and had little room for Skee ball. Oh well, wasn't my budget we were wasting. So we played in the back of the truck with the electricity off, just rolling the balls up the slope. Good fun.

there's really a dearth of skee-ball around here - i think the closest that i know of is outside of charlotte, at some dave & buster's clone in the concord mills mall whose name escapes me at the moment...

My happiest Chuck E. Cheese memory was the time I discovered you could get extra prize tickets from the skee-ball machine by gently tugging at the ticket protruding from the dispensing slot. Man, I hit the jackpot that day! (Still, I didn't get enough tickets to snag one of the really cool prizes, like the remote controlled car or the ghetto blaster. Those places were nothing but bunco operations!)

Skee ball is my favorite thing to do at arcades, the older the better. Santa Cruz Boardwalk has some good ones. I love sound of the balls make when they drop down after you put a token in.

Man, I love skee ball! I got really good at it as a kid for a while, when I was the right height. I figured out the right spin and angle to roll a curve ball up the right wall and into the middle row -- not a 100 every time, but mostly 20s, 40s and 60s instead of measly fives and 10s.

Thanks for the jog down memory lane, Miko!

I once asked Kevin Smith for skeeball tips and he said it was the dumbest question anyone had ever asked him.

I still love skeeball, but now I hate Kevin Smith.

I love skeeball! But I keep a safe distance while playing with the kid. She has a habit of rebounding the ball off the table in such a way that it always hits that sweet spot right in the center of your ankle that makes it feel like your foot is going to fall off.

God that hurts. Almost as much as getting ragged on by Kevin Smith.

Skee Ball has had a much longer and more successful career than Kevin Smith, so, there's that.

Skee ball is so much fun. It's the game I always gravitate to in arcades. That, and air hockey. I'm not very good at video games.

Skee ball is okay, but I love those goddamn basketball hoop arcade games. I'll take anyone on.
