13 August 2007

My kid sister is now someone's wife! I just got back from the wedding last night. Pleased to report that my emotional family didn't cry all weekend.
[More:]

They had the wedding in Central NY, where his family is from (since mine's all scattered and other than the groom and his brother, theirs is all right in the area), so I just got back yesterday. It was beautiful, and I just can't believe the kid who used to throw her lacrosse cleats on the couch is all grown up and married.

It was a nice time. I love her husband, and his family is very nice. Although I think they were a bit surprised by the sheer volume of noise my small Italian family can produce.
I didn't get them much by way of a gift yet, but I'm making them something as soon as I get pictures from the wedding.

It all went very well, the only snag was when the unity candle wouldn't light (the wick was buried), but they got it eventually for some pics. That, and my sister grabbing his right hand for the ring, until he stopped and did the "make an L" thing for her. Which no one saw but me and the best man, so I think everyone now assumes we're all crazy for busting out laughing on the alter.
Congratulations!!!!!!!

Aw, yay, kellydamnit! So... no big wedding dramas then? No fistfights? Noone drunkenly hitting on inappropriate people?

Nope, no drama to speak of. One of my sister's high school friends kind of got bitchy about not being asked to be a bridesmaid (she had four, all family), that was it. She had the nerve to call my sister the morning of the wedding and say "yeah, the ceremony time is kind of interfering with our hotel check out, what do you expect me to do."

Unfortunately for her, my sister's now-husband called her back and told her exactly what he thought she should do, and she was a perfect angel from that point on.

And everyone seemed to be drunkenly hitting on my stepbrother, which I found to be a riot, since he was so clearly uncomfortable with the whole thing.

The only complaint they had was that the photo place sent a woman who wasn't too on the ball. But, the photo place also gave them the super-premium deluxe package for the price of the basic one by mistake (and tried to get out of it a couple weeks before the wedding, until my brother in law said "hm, funny, it's been a few months since I graduated, but I do remember reading a lot about signed contracts when I was in law school."). So, you can't win them all.

See, that's why I love him. That, and he can handle doing shots with me and my stepdad while discussing politics.

Heh, sometimes I secretly like the wedding drama, but it's always good to hear of one going off smoothly. Yay for the new BIL!

Congrats to the new couple! Weddings are more interesting with at least some stories!
