I just scored a Nintendo Wii. Which games for the console are considered must-own? (There can't be that many--the Wii shelves still look bare to me.)
If you like killing krauts as much as I do, you should get Call of Duty III; it's intense. You'll need a few months in a sanitorium in Scotland when you're done.

I hear Tiger Woods golf is good. The Mario Soccer game is a little goofy: the Hugh Janus jury of one is out on it. I haven't played the Godfather game, but it's supposed to be like the GTA titles.

My son had the Godfather. His assessment was "too much driving around and strongarming businesses to pay protection". Since his TV was in the same room as my computer, I watched a lot of it, and from my perspective as a strategy gamer, it did seem that the "resource stream" was very high maintenance as businesses that were ignored became more reluctant to pay. That meant returning often to beat the crap out of someone.

The Godfather wigs me out a little because the nunchuck and Wii remote make the strangle move a little too realistic (also the punching). A lot of my friends really like it though, and it's really nice and moody like you'd expect.

Wii Sports rocks, of course. I like Nintendo because they seem to be the console I can get non-gamers to play, so I always pick up Mario Party. I'm also a fan of Wario Ware because I like how short and frenetic the games are.

I'm probably going to rent the Harry Potter one just to check out gameplay - you have to move the remote as the wand and also say "the spell" outloud properly to play. I haven't read too many reviews of it though, but that part seems pretty neat.

I've played Rayman which most of my friends are playing now, and some of the minigames in it are pretty fun.

I've been downloading old games from the Wii store because I like playing super old games. Toe Jam and Earl rock! hehe

Oh neat!

Trama Center: Second Opinion is a great game - it's a remake of a DS game but so much better on the Wii. It seriously challeneges even my Wii-mote-fu.

Also, I like to buy old games and play them on the Wii, even if they seem overpriced.

I've had a Wii since the launch and have rented most of the games that are out there (except some of the rushed out movie tie-ins, which usually suck.

I own Zelda, Wii Sports, Wii Play (mostly bought to get a 4th controller, but its got a couple fun mini games), Excite truck (remarkably long game, still haven't finished everything in it), Mario Party 8 (some decent mini games, less horrible than previous versions of the game, really not worth buying unless you really like mario party games)

Rayman is excellent, but a friend owns it so I haven't bought it, same goes for Wario Ware (though Rayman wins between those two).

Resident Evil was a great port, Godfather was a lot of fun as well. Red Steel wasn't worth the packaging it came in. Trauma Center was interesting, though I didn't have much time to play with it and didn't get too far. Elebits was fun for few days.

I'm forgetting tons of other titles, but the basic rule is rent-before-buy so far. Other than Zelda and Excite truck, some of the virtual console titles get the most play on my wii so far.

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves is pretty much a must-buy as far as I'm concerned. YM, of course, MV.

People kept raving about Zelda, so I bought that. Not my kind of thing at all - far too much wandering around, talking to people, solving puzzles and so on. It looks stunning, but... meh. The Sonic game is cool, though. Lots of fun. The Resident Evil 4 version for the Wii is meant to be superb, so that's going to be my next purchase.

Zelda is very fun, the sword fighting is really cool. Wii sports is great. I found the Godfather game to be very boring for the reasons mentioned above, GTA is mostly fun because you don't HAVE to do anything at all.

Wario Ware will cause any kid under the age of around 13-14 to bug out and giggle and act a spazz.

I've yet to play call of duty because I beat it on the PS2 and then tried Medal of Honor on the Wii and found it to be the worst video game I've ever played and I've been playing video games since my dad gave me quarters to play pong in the bar to I would leave him be.

I might get the Resident Evil jam next. I just rent em mostly though.

Mostly I play the Wii sports golf (and I loathe golf), it's the best. I might try out the bass fishing game too. In fact, I'm going to rent it this week.

Also, if you want GameCube recommendations (and you do--as far as multiplayer/party games go, it might be the best console ever), just say the word.

Resident Evil gets a rave review from my co-worker.
I'm currently enjoying Mercury Meltdown revolution

Thanks for the recommendations.

It looks like I have to get Wario Ware--I enjoyed it an awful lot in its GBA incarnation, at least, and it looks like it has serious multiplayer potential. Resident Evil 4 looks like a buy as well, though I already played through it twice on the Gamecube. (Killing zombies never gets old.) Zelda I already played on the Cube as well--I liked it a lot, but not enough to play through it again.

I have Mario Party 8 (it was part of the bundled deal I got--the Wii plus an extra controller plus MP8 for $329), but I haven't yet decided whether to open it or eBay it.

I'm intrigued by Godfather (primarily because I look at the Wii controller and think about the possibilites of violent gaming), but I get bored by GTA-style games pretty easily, and so I may wait for a price drop on that one.

And I'm having a blast with Wii Sports, even though it's just a demo.
