"The Directory of Open Access Journals. This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals." It's been around for three years but I just found it today. A lot of resources.
Awesome! I found a great folklore journal. Sadly, it's in Finnish. But there are lots of other neat things to read, too. Thanks!

Thank you for this arse_hat. Open Access to journals and scientific literature has been around as a concept quite a long time. I s'pose since journals and publishing houses impose exorbitant amounts to individuals and libraries for carrying them. This definitely has implications for, you know, knowledge dissemination. It seems that the general public relies on information filtered and delivered by journalists who rarely have sufficient background to guarantee optimal coverage. This is a dirty little secret. Or maybe not so secret.

George Soros foundation a few years back (2001) launched a very similar exercise which got popular but I think stalled after a while(Budapest open access initiative).

I will be submitting some journals for open access here too.
