He doesn't get seriously injured. This clip is apparently tearing across the Internet right now. (Don't think I've missed it around here). I hate X Games and hate watching people get hurt, but watching him walk off after this 40-foot fall is amazing. He was released from the hospital today with just a broken wrist.
I'm pretty desensitized to X-Game-style crashes and other x-treme videos, but...when Jake comes off his skateboard I covered my eyes and gasped. It still makes me cringe. Make sure to watch the final replay and watch his shoes pop off.

And when did this giant skateboard ramp come around? I miss the standard vert ramp.

Just amazing that you can fall like that in a way that makes your sneakers fly off your body, and you WALK AWAY. Amazing.

I was wondering if his condition had anything to do with the material of the ramp. I can't imagine that you'd get off that easy falling 45 feet onto concrete.

I saw that live.

Fuckin' awesome. The fact that he got up and walked away after that is what makes it so.

I miss the days when you were tough shit if you yelled "FUCKIN BLUNTSLIDE!" and then you popped up onto the rail and fucked up and hit your nuts and your friends gathered around you and laughed and made jokes while you were rolling around on the ground in pain. Now kids have to fall 40 feet to be the tough bastard? Corporate media, man, corporate media.

Keee-rist, that hurts to watch. As the commentator said (and I love how freaked out they are), it's like the guy fell four stories out of a window onto a sidewalk. Fucking OW.

The popularity of this clip adds credence to my theory that skateboarding is NASCAR for city folks. Everybody's just watching for the crash.

Really? Most street skate videos I've watched don't even show the crashes. And normal vert skating doesn't have very good/violent crashes. In fact, I've always been a little bitter about watching skateboard videos because they don't show how hard and painful it is. I need to justify my lazy teenaged years.

Anyone who skated or hung with skaters or even just had them around knows.
Boy howdy. i am damn surprised at how well some scars heal.

They showed this in slow-mo on a tv sports show, and you can see the dude just go limp before he hits the ground. Now that's a dude who knows how to take a fall.

Is the gigantic vert new to the X-Games this year? I don't remember seeing it before.

I think the fact that he landed on a ramp and not flat on helped, too. He didn't catch the full brunt of the impact.

I dunno, BoringPostcards. This clip appeals to people like me, who hate watching people get hurt, because he gets up and walks off. Also, skateboard mishaps, unlike NASCAR crashes, don't involve fire, which is exciting and brightly colored.

I just saw it on Moookie. Purdy cool.

Also, I think this one is making the rounds at MeFi right now... pretty neat too:

Coast Guard Top 10 Rescues

Number 8 is my fave, in which the Coast Guard Cutter "beaches" itself on the sinking ship so that the crew can run across to the Cutter just before the ship sinks.

Xtreme Rescues!
