Jackpot? Okay, so I made a (semi) major score at Sally's Army today. [More:]I found a paperback copy of Minnie Pearl's autobiography - signed. So, since I know nothing whatsoever about memorabilia or autographs or even, frankly, ebay, I turn to you bunnies. How do I find out if this is worth anything (and hell, I paid 50 cents for it, so anything is $1 and up) and then, how do I sell it? I want to read it first, because I've always kind of liked Minnie Pearl, but then, well.

Sally's Army = Salvation Army = Goodwill = Oxfam = charity thrift shop
A used bookstore that's more than a paperback trade-in or a place specializing in Nashville memorabilia should be able to appraise it--but I think your best bet for selling would be ebay.

That is SO FUCKING COOL. What kind of condition is it in?

I have no idea what Minnie Pearl's autograph is worth- there are sites out there that will give you values on these kind of things. If there's any value there, it's in the autograph. I know I've seen sites out there about how to value an autograph, but I can't find them right now.

Bear in mind that even if it turns out not to have much value in general, you might get a little bit more for it in Nashville.

When I'm more sober I'd be glad to help you research this.

If it turns out not to have any value, I bet there are still places in Nashville that would love to have it... have you seen that statue of Minnie Pearl inside the Ryman auditorium's lobby? It'd be so cool to have it somewhere like that just for the historical value.

I say hold on to it. It's not going to bring you everlasting wealth, but it will always be an awesome conversation piece. Embrace the weird, eschew the eBay.

I have a 1st edition PT Barnum autobiography that I keep for those reasons. It'll never carry me into retirement, but it's a cool fucking thing to have.

Make sure you leave the price-tag on it!

There are some signed (hardcover) first editions of this book listed at abebooks for between $50 and $90. For a paperback I'd guess at a potential value of $20-30 if you sold it direct (via e-bay, etc.), or less if you were to sell to a bookstore.

I'm a huge PT Barnum fan, mudpuppie. I'm from the city of humbug, don't you know.

Cool find, indeed, mgl. Now if you only had the hat to go with it. :)
