I can't believe I gotta ask a computer nerd question →[More:] Okay... three computers- two desktops, running XP, and a newer laptop running Vista. All connected via D-Link DI-514 to the intarweb. So far, so good.

But.... I tried to get them to file share and printer share with each other via Workgroup. The XPs- no prob. The HP officejet 6110 all-in-one printer is connected to one of the XPs and both XPs can print (and also share files with each other).

The Vista machine can access the internet, as well as the shared files on the other computers. It can see, but cannot connect to, the printer. When connecting to the printer, it says "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied."

The printer and folders are shared from the XP machine; the Vista machine has Discovery, File Sharing and Print Sharing enabled.

Did you try installing the printer drivers on the vista machine?

For what it's worth, I have a pretty much identical set-up, except for the brand of router and the Vista (Home Premium) machine can access the printer (Canon S530D) on one of the XP (Pro) machine fine and I didn't have to install any drivers. It sounds like that is the issue, though and you may need to install the Vista printer drivers (after downloading them, of course) via the printer control panel (can't remember exactly where, but it's in the same tab where you set up printer sharing).

Thanks guys. I installed the print drivers that came with the printer but it is a pre-Vista printer so if the drivers changed I'll have to get the new ones. Sounds logical. I'll post an update after I try that.
