How embarrassing. J.K. Rowling on criticism from Christians:
"I had one letter from a vicar in England -- this is the difference -- saying would I please not put Christmas trees at Hogwarts as it was clearly a pagan society. Meanwhile, I'm having death threats when I'm on tour in America."
Because the Christmas tree is a Christian symbol? Huh? Don't they complain that the tree and all the related hoopla is taking the "Christ" out of Christmas?

I've actually read that the Xmas tree has pagan origins, which does add a little unintentional humor to the whole thing.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at, BP. The mind boggles.

Not to mention the whole "death threats from Christians" thing. WTF.

British people are always shocked by the violent, obnoxious, overt fundamentalist mentality on display in states.

Oops, mike- I thought you were referring to commercialism of Christmas and all that, when it was pretty clear you weren't. Duh.

*guzzles more tea*

DAMMIT SORRY CHUCKDARWIN I SUCK AT READING USERNAMES. I saw "ch" and "British" and just assumed...

It's OK; I'm pretty sure he's better looking than me, anyway. Confuse away.

Reminds me of the old Bill Hicks joke about pro-lifers threatening to kill people. The mind does boggle about anyone using religion as a method of hate and destruction. Maybe it was just because they were fed up with Harry fecking Potter.

Well, if it's any consolation to Ms. Rowling, our fundies are too chickenshit to actually follow through on any of those threats. All bark and no bite, those loonies. (That is, unless you're an abortion clinic.)

A mug, eh? Wow, you're serious about your tea-drinking.

Damn right!

A mug is the only way to drink tea. You can't get enough in a cup.
posted by TheDonF 27 July | 09:49
I would like a flagon of tea, please.

reminds me of a great Gandhi quote:

"i like your christ.
i do not like your christians.
they are very unlike your christ."

I love the Bill Hicks bit where a group of guys corners him after a show and threaten him for making jokes about Jesus. "Oh, you're Christians?" Hicks sez. "FORGIVE ME."
