What's your Walk Score? Mine's an 88. Top that!
92.

89.

It's really 66 but I just wanted to be a spoiler for a second ;)

eamondaly, do you live in a city?

Address not found! Typed in my parents' address -- they live in the same town. Got a 46. But honestly, the only thing in walking distance is a fire station, library, and a YMCA, which are all more than two miles away.

The closest thing to my house is a school, horse stables, and a Jiffy Mart. And possibly a soon to be Walmart if Walmart succeeds in fending off the rabid protesters.

93. And since I don't live in frickin' NYC, I actually have some money left over from not owning a car.

Hm. I got 52, but I'm contesting it. I'm across the river from a big town and almost everything is walkable, by my lights. I'm really disappointed to see that they listed the Starbuck's as closest coffee shop when it's really the 3rd away, after 2 closer independents. I walk into town a lot and there's a plethora of choices for everything about 1 mile away. Where I really got hammered is on "grocery store," though - the nearest chain store is a few miles away, BUT in closer than a mile there are a produce market, butcher shop, pasta shop, bakery Italian cheese and wine shop, chocolatier, Indian take-out place, and coffee shop. All independents, though, and maybe that's too hard for this Google app to figure out.

Mine was also an 88, but if it took the CTA into account, I'm sure it would be higher!

it took me a while to realize that you had to click the arrows to see the full listing of businesses. I could not figure out why the only grocery store it was finding was the convenience store in the lobby of the condo next door when there's a jewel/osco and a treasure island half a block away..

I agree, "Hm." I scored a 9 by putting in only my zip code and a 0 if i calculate with my street address. Actually, according the list of places near me, the closest is 1.39 miles but I've lived here a while and have never heard of it. I've known my location is not "walkable". It would be cool to see a calculator that showed the forested areas one could walk in. My score would rocket to 100!!

International Support: Unfortunately, typing addresses outside of the U.S. currently causes errors. We hope to get international support working soon! After all, we have a lot to learn from the rest of the world about walkability!

So there you go. I guarantee I would get like a ten thousand because my neighborhood is crazy walkable.

Oddly enough, my old apartment in Boca got a 97 (?) but I guess since I lived the only possible place where I could have gotten away without a car for two years - Boca has an itty bitty "downtown" area. My prior neighborhood (still in Boca) gets a 62. My old neighborhood in New Hampshire gets a 12!!

91 out of a hundred.

I wish that these places I could walk to were places I'd actually want to patronize.

Or that I liked my neighborhood enough to want to walk around it, instead of viewing it as something I have to put up with.

Oh, well. I do have very nice access to the V and R trains and that's walkable enough for me.

35! Alaska is good for something.

This thing has been running for 32 minutes and is still not done.
posted by arse_hat 25 July | 23:14
Mine should be really high, but we're not in the U.S. Our old U.S. zip got 89.

0, which sounds about right. But I also get 0 for my previous address, where there were at least one of every category within easy walking distance. I also put in an address right in the middle of literally dozens of restaurants, shops, cafes etc (including some international chains) and still got 0. maybe "We hope to get international support working soon" means that they have got the address-finding thing worked out since SassHat tried, but there are no business details included. Still, I'm impressed that it found my house using the street address, given that the street numbers were only allocated a month or so ago.

97/100. Suck it, y'all.

68, downtown San Jose. It totally misses the real movie theater for some reason but it did show a bunch of book stores I didn't know about. It also doesn't include being able to walk to work, which is fairly major.

I'm in a very central downtown location.

97/100, and that doesn't take into account that I'm amidst most of the government and private offices that I work with locally.
posted by D.C. 26 July | 00:52
46, but it's completely wrong. There's nothing I can't get to that isn't within walking distance.
posted by seanyboy 26 July | 01:33
I put George's address in Ohio in it and got 0/100. But on the farm you need a car to get to the damn mailbox so it's no surprise that nothing else is within walking distance.
posted by essexjan 26 July | 02:53
40, but I didn't bother looking too far into it when I saw how sparse the map was around my neighborhood. They had maybe a quarter of the actual shops and restaurants that are around my hood.
posted by CitrusFreak12 26 July | 03:37
94. And I don't even live in Boston. I'm in a suburb. But I pick my neighborhoods carefully for walking access.
posted by Eideteker 26 July | 05:30
I borked it.
posted by hadjiboy 26 July | 06:16
55, which is rubbish for the same reasons seanyboy states. I do not need a car to do 98% of daily life things.
posted by altolinguistic 26 July | 06:34
A miserable 58, but it barely counts since the grocery store they calculated is a gas station, and the bookstore they listed is really an adult novelty shop . . .

Walk Score: 80 out of 100 -- Cambridge, Mass.
posted by AwkwardPause 26 July | 07:55
I got 69, for some reason. . .but I also walk to work as a rule, and walk or bike most places in town.
posted by danf 26 July | 07:57
77, and also somewhat misleading, because we walk and bike for 99% of our live's activities. That is, unless it's raining.
posted by msali 26 July | 08:47
My old address in NYC on 14th St scored 98/100, buy my current address in Phoenix scores 35/100 (and should really be lower). :(
posted by mullacc 26 July | 08:50
I scored an 80, but it thinks that the closest movie theater is over 40 miles away, when in fact it is about a block.
posted by Capn 26 July | 08:52
for some reason, it thinks 10033 is in Iowa and can't find my street address when I type New York, NY.

LAME.
posted by stynxno 26 July | 09:49
You're living in your own private Iowa.
posted by Hugh Janus 26 July | 09:56
3! I'm surprised it scored that high. I guess the fact that there's a restaurant 2 miles away kept us from being a 0.

I'm country, y'all!

Hah--apparently, I live at the US Department of Commerce--the silly thing cant' tell the difference between NW and NE DC.
posted by mrmoonpie 26 July | 11:02
Their definition of "walkable" must be like 300 yards.
posted by Miko 26 July | 11:29
Miko, I can only agree. I got an 85, but it really should be higher.
posted by Specklet 26 July | 11:47
100, I win! The neighborhood where I grew up had 68.
posted by brujita 26 July | 12:06
My current neighborhood gets an 89, but I notice that the closest businesses (the locally owned grocery a block and a half away, the independent fancy food place with coffee bar around the corner, the little used book store three blocks over) are missing from their lists, and the distance to the nearest school and library are exaggerated slightly.

88, for Hancock Park/Miracle Mile neighborhood of L.A.
