Aw Jan, please don't feel bad. We really do thing you're lovely! And besides, cameras lie all the time; they show us tiny moments in time, and that's not how people's eyes and brains work. We take in the whole, the movement, the light. The loveliness. *whuffles Jan sweetly on the cheek*

Hi Essexjan. I've never met you, so I went and looked at the pics here and from sueinnyc. No, you don't look old and fat. Not at all. Have no idea of your age, but it's certainly much younger than me (me, 47 if I did my math right).

You do, however, look like the sort of person I'd like to meet and get to know. You have a lot of history that I don't know, and that you do know, so your mental image of yourself has "baggage". Your pics strike me as a pretty, fun, outgoing, smart, active confident person. And, all those things are not "old and fat"...

FWIW, YMMV and all. Remind yourself of who you are today, and who you are going to be tomorrow - not who you don't want to be from yesterdays long past.

Really, don't cry. It's hard sometimes. I really know, I hate pics too sometimes.
