A comic book character name pronunciation question Darkseid. Is his name pronounced "dark-side" or "dark seed"? It came up in a discussion recently and no one was sure.
In the cartoons they call him "Dark-side"...

I read on Mark Evanier's site that it's Dark-side, but that Kirby was so polite that, if people came up to him and used the wrong pronunciation, he'd use it back at them so as not to offend.

Here's the Evanier thing. His whole Kirby FAQ is pretty awesome comics edjumacation.

It's pronounced DarkSide, with a German-style ei diphthong. (HINT: In German, the second letter when 'e' and 'i' are involved is always long. Gezundheit. Zeitgeist. Liebe.)

Yeah, it's darkside. You can search for him on youtube, I'm sure they say his name in there somewhere.
