I love tomolives. And if they're in an absolutely awesome martini that ikkyu2 just made, so much the better.
I have never heard of these tomolives, and am intrigued. Ususally I prefer my martinis with a twist of lemon, so I'm curious as to what a tomolive might taste like, and what it brings to the beverage.
Tomato? + Olive? Maybe olives stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes? (I mean, maybe not, but such olives are fantastic *anyway*. And stupendous in martinis.)
Screw the tomolives - why did no one tell me that Dream Fluff Donuts was damaged in the earthquake? I used to work right around the corner from them, and always stopped in for a chocolate old fashioned and cup of tea on those mornings when I had to open the shop. To think of all those poor donuts cut down in their prime by broken window glass... it makes me sad, I tell you.
They're pickled tomatoes, I guess? But they're little and green, so they look like olives. And they're spicy, in a pickly pepper sort of way. So the last bit of your martini gets a good peppery glow.
Sorry, we just had dinner and I may still be a bit buzzed. Steak, rare! And garlic & rosemary roasted potatoes! And heirloom tomatoes with fresh basil! And OMG did I mention the cranberry beans? I had never ever cooked cranberry beans before, but they are wonderful! Slow simmered with garlic and sage!
And a deer's tongue lettuce salad, with lemon cucumbers from the CSA and a homemade dijon vinaigrette.
And really nice French-style Napa cabernet, which is about the best combo ever. Fruity wine, but aged in oak long enough to have some structure.
YUM!
The moral of the story being: I have no fucking clue what a tomolive is, but if you see them, buy them and put them in a martini.
OH! And we bought fig-flavored or -infused chevre and spread it on sourdough for an hors-d'oevre, and I mention it mainly because it's TOTAL HEAVEN when combined with a Tanquery Ten martini with tomolives.
This is a U for the one I left out of "hors d'oeuvre."
Also I wanted to say "YAY FARMER'S MARKET!" for the cranberry beans and the deer's tongue lettuce. I used to try to buy at least one thing every week that I had never heard of, but I haven't been going often enough to keep that up, but that last trip gave me those TWO things that I had never heard of but now am completely in love with.
