Odd blog comments Do you get these kinds of comments on your blog? I don't think they're spam.[More:]

I write a consumer-oriented blog (think a little bit Consumerist) and I get dumb comments. For example, I wrote about my "customer service" experience at a Burger King, and I got a comment saying "I was in your store the other day...yadda yadda bad experience...yadda yadda your company had better fix it now."

I wrote a post on PBS's Everyday Food show, and got a comment saying "I watch your show every week, I'm trying to find this recipe you did, keep up the great work!"

I've tried e-mailing a couple of these people, saying "I don't work there/make that show" but never get a reply. Are these spam (they never include links) or are they really that dumb? (Never underestimate the stupidity of noobs on the Internet.)

Should I leave the comments there, with no reply? Should I reply with another comment saying I don't work at that place? Or should I delete the comments?
I get those all the time, for a few years I actually emailed the commentator with the proper email address of the store/place they really wanted to get in touch with with a quick happy quip about me not being them, just writing about them - but too often did I get aol (sorry aol users) type of "OMG YOU SUCK LOL!!111!!" replies so now I just weed those comments out, and maybe email the user if they don't seem like total asses and I'm not too busy.

In the end though, it's time out for you and far too often not appreciated so, don't spend too much time on them. Some people are just total idiots.

(so yeah that was a longwinded way of saying, delete them - the reason I email is because they ahve to sign up to be able to comment at my place so they spent some time doing that.)

Some of the dumbest people I know are able to use a computer. I'd ignore/delete them.

Previously on Metafilter, and on mathowie's wholelottanothing blog.

There is something about this type of post that I find irresistible (reading them, not writing them!).

Likewise.

Jesus! Hugh, is that a pro-Nazi community? I've seen it all.

I think it's a Russian pro-Nazism-as-fashion-statement community, full of Russians who like the way Nazis dress. Or who think there's some joke to be made there? But judging from user names and avatars, they seem to be at least a little serious. Russkies diggin' the Wermacht... what a doozy.

Honestly, I don't know what to think, except that it's stupid, whatever it means.

This is a perfect opportunity for someone looking for something to bitch about to complain about my linking to a hate site. I know, LiveJournal is a buncha fuckin' Neanderthals. I'm such an asshole. Big deal.

You just put that link here 'cause of the Hitler bunny, didnya HJ?

Yep, and I also kinda liked the platoon of Asian krauts and the zebra-fur pistol. But really I'm just as confused by it as anyone.

To make up for such a horrible link, here's one of my favorite bespoke Savile Row tailor blogs, English Cut.

what platform are you running?

if you're on wordpress, you might want to look into the comment timeout plugin.
