My girlfriend's gone and I dunno what to do! (PS. LA) I hadn't had the freezing realization that my girlfriend's approval of my general comings and goings has been so ingrained in my experience that I have little idea what to do when she's not around.[More:]

She's off at a conference (and I'm a bit jealous, even though I have no idea what I'd do at a librarian conference), but more than that it's like, well, I could see a movie alone or see a play alone or go to the beach alone, but it's just not as interesting.

Drinking gin, smoking pot and watching Jaws alone? Those are all things I can do, but she's gone through Wednesday!

Also, no internet at home... Guess it's time to do all those middling projects that I have a vague interest in around the house... (I've always kinda wanted to design my own currency... Maybe through force of arms I can convince the neighbors to adopt it).
I think I might just hang out at museums.

Dinner Monday? Vegan Joint or elsewhere? (Sorry, my weekend's totally booked.)

A stack o'books and a glass of lemonade is my default. Or video games. Or find an arcade?

Yeah, are there arcades? If so, where? Maybe I should see if the video game place will let me rent a console.

Go run some errand like rotating your tires or having something else fixed that takes about an hour, and while the guys are working on it, go across the street to a movie theater and pick a flick, willy-nilly, preferably one that's already started. Just catching the last forty-five minutes of a movie you have no interest in, as a time-killing gambit, is a pretty liberating feeling. I saw Meet the Fokkers this way, entered well into the movie and left before the end. Made me feel pretty cool.

Google Maps gives one in Westwood. There's a luminescent minigolf place in the Howard Hughes Center, too.

Right here.

I hear they're closed for a private party saturday night, but I bet you could talk your way in.

My husband is going to be gone next week. It's going to be strange since he hasn't been away since our kids were born.

I have the inclination to repaint the bedroom while he is gone. I'm definitely making him a scrumptious homecoming meal.

Money maker.

Create a half room like Willy Wonka's office. Name yourself Chairman of the Bored and have a tea party in it.

Buy a Wii?

Force yourself to finish something you've never had time for. Story? Song? Poem? Art? Photos?

If you are under food scrutiny, also, then, this!
posted by danf 13 July | 15:27
Hmm... Tito's looks OK. There's also an empenada place around there that I've been meaning to hit up. But usually the only food scrutiny I get from Amy is the "Don't eat that! It fell on the ground!" variety.

There is really only one answer. The Museum of Jurassic Technology.

Mmmmm, empanadas. You get good salteņas out there? (Salteņa = Bolivian empanada with chicken, hard-boiled egg, vegetables, olives, and/or other delights; it's really a breakfast food).

Lynster, I've been to the MoJT. That was the first thing I did when I moved here.

Though Spaceballs is up at the Regency Fairfax tonight at midnight...

You could always do projects which you KNOW she'll approve of, like building her a new shoe rack or culling your comic book / magazine collection :D

NAH! Call up your buddies and make a mess. You've still got days and days to clean it all up. Hell, if she's not coming back till Wednesday you're still in puke-in-the-curtains territory.

Anytime my better half is out of town, I use the time to catch up on all the horror movies I've stacked up and haven't watched because they freak him out.

Man, none of my buddies live in town! That's the problem!

But I found some wine tasting at some dude's house on Craig's list. What the hell? Why not?

Heh. My husband just got offered another film (he does sound) for August and September... again away - some tiny place in the mountains, apparently. He just got back from seven weeks on a remote island doing a film. And this is all after we moved to Athens so we wouldn't be so much apart after he had been working on a TV series here for seven months while we were still (nominally) living in Thessaloniki... and there's a very big, top-director production starting in October that he might be offered - shooting mostly in Bulgaria. (!)

Unless I become a boom man, I may not see him at all for the next six months. If I had some money, I think I would come to the U.S. for an extended stay. *sigh*

so give her lots of love and a foot massage when she gets home, and keep her away from the film industry

(sorry for the derail of this thread, please)

tazio, come to NY in the fall. You will have the place all to yourself and visit Bunnystock II! You will have my place all to yourself, well, mostly, since I will be travelling! Seriously!

I got to run, but I miss you bunnies. There are so many threads I want to comment. We are being used and abused here. Yesterday we logged in an 11hour work day... And I got to run now for the next meeting. Darn work! But I will be free this afternoon. Why can't I post from blackberry? Yer gods of metachat, help!

Okay, I leave now. Love, hugs and kisses to all o'ya! Especially you klangklangklangklang!

Get Ethiopian at Meskerem or Mercato on Fairfax. Go to Dutton's Brentwood before it's threatened by the wrecking ball again.
