MP3 Player Shuffle-a-gogo anyone? 10 songs on shuffle on your MP3 player. [More:]

No cheating. Here's mine with some real time comments.

1) AC/DC – Highway to Hell – When my friends were listening to AC/DC I was listening to Cheap Trick and Gary Numan, so I was a Johnny-come-lately to really embracing them. But now I love those giant guitar riffs, and this is one of my favorites (although I think they’re high water mark is the live version of “Whole Lotta Rosie”)

2) JOHN LENNON – Oh Yoko – A song I never cared for until a year or two ago, and now I think it’s one of the sweetest throw-away Lennon ever did.

3) BOYCE and HART – Teardrop City – One of my favorite Monkees songs, as done by the guys that wrote it.

4) CHRIS MARS – Whining Horse – Yes, I know his voice isn’t that good, but I absolutely love every single minute of his first two solo albums.

5) PRETENDERS – Up the Neck – Not one of my faves off the first album (or is the second – I don’t want to get up and look right now), but still a fine song. Actually, now that it’s playing, maybe this IS one of my faves.

6) BEATLES – Little Child – Now I just want to rock out to the first few Beatles albums.

7) BLOW-UP – Pool Valley – OK, I had to get up to see what this was. I threw about 20 songs onto the MP3 player from the Creation Records boxset, and this makes me realize that I need to hear more by these guys. This is great pop that brings to mind mid period Hoodoo Gurus and House of Love – which where I come from, is a good thing.

8) the LIVING END – Nowhere Town – If Brian Setzer and Green Day had a baby, and it drank a lot of coffee, it’d sound like the Living End.

9) the DEL ROYALS – Always Naggin (Grumblin Fussin Nag Nag) - Fun vintage R&B from the Mint Records box.

10) ROD STEWART - You Wear It Well -When this started I had no clue why I put it on the MP3 player, but now that it's going I remember how good early Rod Stewart really was.

Once I got enough songs loaded onto my MP3 player to have constant variety I've stopped listening to radio and haven't looked back. Damn I love MP3 player shuffle when I don't know what CD or album to put on.

I'm gonna do real time comments as well

Les Savy Fav - The Slip
OK I immediately look cooler than I actually am. Although, I love LSF, but I mainly like seeing them live. Listening to them on the ipod just doesn't do them justice.

The Bats - Things
The Bats, from NZ. One of my favorite bands. In fact, I just recently posted on my blog about how one of their songs was the tipping point for me to start really loving music. (North by North, with a wonderful rolling baseline)

The Pixies - Monkey Gone to Heaven
Pretty standard fare.

Yo La Tengo - Mr Tough
Off their last album, which I haven't listened to nearly enough.

Mission of Burma - Hunt Again
These guys put on a fucking awesome show as well.

Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday
Not my favorite stones song by a long way.

Supergrass - Sometimes I make you sad
Yeah, I love this album (In it for the money). Reminds me of college? Grad School? When did it come out?

Leonard Cohen - I'm your man
Off an outof5 mix, I think. I like Leonard Cohen but I hardly have anything of his. Just one of those things, I guess.

Split Enz - Poor Boy
Woo! I was hoping another NZ band would show up. And who does but the Bros. Finn? Awesome.

White Stripes - Passive Manipulation
I don't like this song, and I've gone off the white stripes. Oh well.

Slack? Early Rod Stewart is teh awesome.

gaspode, yes. Mission of Burma are really really fabulous live.

KoRn - Lost
The White Stripes - Effect & Cause
KoRn - No Place to Hide
Avalon - In A Different Light
The Hold Steady - The Swish
Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Peace, Love, and Understanding

And one more because I was somehow blessed with two KoRn songe:

Fall Out Boy - Sophomore Slump Or the Comeback of the Year

I'm also at work, so from a mere nine-hour playlist:

Muito Tempo Depois - Nelson Sargento
I don't speak Portuguese, but I can tell you, this guy's the real deal. Old man samba of the highest order. From the album Sonho de um Sambista. Get it.

Le Tourbillon - Jeanne Moreau
Heh, this is from the movie, Jules et Jim. I love this song. Watch the movie clip here.

This is My Country - The Impressions
What can I say about this one, that hasn't already been said? It fits perfectly in any spot, in any mix. The Anthology shows Mayfield et al's progression from pop songsters to voices of black America; it's a thrilling ride.

Ride On - AC/DC
Speaking of rides, here's my favorite guitar solo. Okay, second favorite. No, favorite. Oh, I don't know.

You Ain't Me - Frank Black
Indeed, you ain't. Only song I know with the word "masturbatory" in it.

She Says What She Means - Sloan
I've met classic rock guys who sneer at Sloan, and I say "listen to the first song on Navy Blues." They never do, or they lie and say, yeah, I've heard it, and I wasn't impressed. I question their veracity. Cleave to the truth, rock & rollers, and accept Sloan into your hearts.

Pressure Drop - Toots & the Maytals
Okay, so this is a great song, but it's almost exactly like "(She's My) Scorcher," which I like a little better. Someone could accuse me of being a poor Toots fan for that, but then they'd have to be as obsessive about him as I am, and I, uh, doubt it.

Good Lookin' Out - Sick Of It All
Who says hardcore lyrics have to be stupid? Sick Of It All does. Serious head-bobber.

Good Feeling - Travis
Good song. I like "All I Wanna Do Is Rock" better, but these guys are cool, and their singer is tremendous.

Luck of Lucien - A Tribe Called Quest
No problemo, I'll help you with your demo
If you go to the store for me.
Lucien, I'm just kiddin'.
You should know!

Mine'll be no fun, since it's pretty much just the first four Gary Numan/Tubeway Army albums today, with about 15 other songs... (I'm trying to keep things tight while I reacquaint myself with music).

Heh, iTunes' Party Shuffle brings up the following: MetaFilter PodCasts 1, 4, 5, 2, 6, 3, 4, 3, 2, 6 and 1. In that order.

Actually shuffling brings up:
1. Excuse Me Mr - No Doubt
2. Pickapart - John Butler Trio
3. She's Only 18 - Red Hot Chili Peppers
4. Waiting for the Bus - Violent Femmes
5. LA Woman - The Doors
6. Everybody's Life - Evanescence
7. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
8. Make This World Safe - The Whitlams
9. Tracks - Gary Numan
10. Life Turned Upside Down - Badly Drawn Boy

That's actually quite a nice selection. No Pink Floyd, which is unusual for me, but nice.

Folhlenfurz - Pole
I should really take the Pole off my player. It's cool, but not really day-to-day listening type stuff.

Nuestro Nido - Pastor Cervera
This is from Putumayo Presents Mexico. Some of you uptight hipsters may sneer at Putumayo, but some of their collections are actually quite good.

American in Bali - Martin Denny
From Hypnotique. The more Martin Denny I find, the more I like.

Encanto Triste - Milton Banana Trio
Aaaaaaaah.

Versiva - Bola
And now for something completely different. Not a bad track though.

Tema Do Nenem - Nova Sabor
Another samba track. I should listen to more samba. I think it would make me a better person.

Sock-it-to-Me - Derrick Harriott
I prefer the Monkey Ska and Derrick!, but this is good stuff too.

Mucha Tequila - Ursula 1000
I think if I was a music makin' kind of person, this might be the kind of music I would make.

High Society Calypso - Louis Armstrong
From Cocktails with Cole Porter. Can you dig old Satchmo swinging? Yes, I can.

Big Man - Bill Monroe
Can't escape without some bluegrass.

What a surprisingly upbeat set of tunes! Not a Slayer or a Skinny Puppy in sight!

US3 - Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) Pop nostalgia
Stars - What I'm Trying to Say Listening more lately, I should be more into them than I am. Great album.
Jeff Buckley - Eternal Life
Frank & Walters - I Suppose
Anybody who listened to my radio sets (I'll bring them back, I promise) knows these guys should have been much bigger.
Damien Rice - Older Chests
Wilco - Alone (Alternate Version)
From the YHF Demos. I'm a total Wilco nerd.
Johnny Cash - A Legend in My Own Time
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's - A Light On a Hill
Some of my favorite lyrics ever: bad country songs / the deafening twang of the rich-white-kid blues
Bloc Party - Where is Home
Sarah Kelly - Out of Reach
Much better live. Entertaining and passionate.
