Will you share your all-time favorites? [More:]At the risk of someone telling me to just go get a blog, here are some I've enjoyed for a long time- some of you might too: Gothic Gardening (thank you wayback machine!) A new favorite is This Garden is Illegal- hope it will be around for a long time. Murals Plus has a really good forum, used to be able to drool over the gallery without joining. Funky sofas- LoriFLA's sofa thread reminded me of it. Last but not least: Full Moon Graphics- I was blown away the first time I saw her graphics (maybe late 1999 or early 2000) and a whole new side of the web opened up for me from there.

Now I want to see yours!
I suspect this is going to turn into a case of "the shlemiel spills the soup on the shlimazel!" but I'll play along. Here's 10 from me to get going:

Dancing Paul. (an Internet World Heritage site).
The Really Big Button That Doesn't Do Anything. (Serving thousands daily since 1999).
Oopsy Daisy.
Hall of Technical Documentation Weirdness.
Patrick Desbiolles' Watch.
House Made from Matches.
A Guide to Honing and Sharpening.
Man Selling Ex-Wife's Wedding Dress on eBay. ("Thanks to everyone from the heart of my bottom.")
Ian's Shoelace Site.
Tombstone Generator.

Wow I remember being blown away by FMG too, in 1998. I wanted a site just so I could use her super cute graphics. She had a blog for a while that I liked reading as well, and a collaborative art site called 24-7 Cool. She had a friend who did another early blog called Swallowing Tacks that I really liked as well. In the early days of blogging, everyone was obsessed with Jeffrey Zeldman, now I never hear anyone mention him.

I was in love with an arty journal type of site by a girl in her 20s in NY back in 1998 or so. The site was called Frosty Lips, but it's a porn site now. Back then it was very innovative in design and content.

I don't really have any all-time favorites though - I'm too fickle.

I wish I surfed the 'Net and read MeFi at least two hours a day the way I used to. Lately I have to remind myself to check Drawn and Exploding Dog.

Iconomy, yes! all that. I'd forgotten about Frosty Lips- remember she had fonts? I first saw metafilter through all that and it hurts to admit how much I care that my number would be like so low if I'd joined then.

OMG you remember Frostly Lips too, auntbunny? We must have read a lot of the same sites....weird! Yes she did have fonts, I totally forgot about that! You're the first person I've ever mentioned it to who's heard of it. The web was so much smaller then.

Other sites I remember checking just about daily in the old days:

Cocky Bastard
Glassdog
Heather Champ
Alex Massie
Cool Stop
Project Cool
katgyrl fonts (she's still around, right shane?)
ctrl-alt-ego
Blogger (I loved the 'recently updated blogs' section)
webloglog (sooooo funny)

"the shlemiel spills the soup on the shlimazel!"

I had no idea what this means (especially in relation to this thread), so I googled it, and I still have no idea what it means. Someone throw me a soup bone here.

Legato. When loaded, move your cursor over the figures to make them dance.

Mopsey (Have a tissue ready, it's a weepie. Or maybe a bucket, if you're not the sentimental type.)

Lucy Pringle's Page. (Crop Circles)

Way back in 1997, Maggy Donea's Water (wayback link) was the first blog that I ever saw. It really opened my eyes to the possibilities of the web, and also brought me into contact with some wonderful folks, the first ones I met via the web.

Yiddish. Sorta. Also, an obscure Laverne & Shirley reference.

Shlemiel: Clumsy bungler, an inept person, butter-fingered; dopey person
Shlimazel: Luckless person. Unlucky person; one with perpetual bad luck

i.e.

My (collection of idiosyncratic personal favorite links) crow is blacker than your (amalgamation of odd but delightfully quirky dust bunnies of the Web) crow.

auntbunny and iconomy, sounds like we traveled in the same webzone in the late 90s-early 00s. Before Swallowing Tacks, Elise had The Zesty Weasel. I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in Kitty Mead's 24-7cool. It was a fun project. Joe Jenett is still amazingly doing Cool Stop every single day after all these years.
