Fontologists and Typestrians: What the font is this font? This is driving me crazy. We need to do rose petal initials on a lawn this weekend for a huge to-do, and the client wants this exact font. I've seen this R a million times, but I can't ID it. What The Font doesn't help.

You need more than one or two letters to id a font at LinoType. Thanks though.

Is there a standard set of fonts traditionally used for invitations? Wonder if the letters in the photo were the same font as the invitations? Wonder if your people would go for matching the invitation font?

I've seen the J a lot (it's a j, right?) The R is throwing me- I was wondering if they'd run out of grass and fudged it until I re-read you've seen it a million times. ...still looking through my favorites for it...

Could just be home grown caligraphy.

I've been through all of the script fonts at MyFonts, and there wasn't one there that matched all the design elements of this R and J perfectly.

The closest I could find was the old favourite Edwardian Script. In particular, it was the only one where the downstroke of the R extends so far to the right, over the top of the letter. Plus/minus a few extra curls, the both the R and J match pretty closely to your photo.

There were a couple of other fonts that matched roughly: Poppl Exquisit BQ and Old Fashion Script.

It seems quite likely that they've just based this off an existing font, rather than it being a faithful reproduction.

I think you're right, chrismear, in that they may have taken the R from Edwardian Script (or a font similar to it) and altered it to fit their needs. I really thought I had seen that exact R tons of times before...sorry to lead you on a wild goosechase, auntbunny!

The letters wanted this Saturday are V and J - we can just use a J similar to the one in the photo and base the V off of the V in Edwardian. Thanks again!

Oh and I came across this little pdf of block and script fonts commonly used for wedding invitations, which could come in handy.
