I'm the owner of a new 8g nano. But I need help! [More:]I have smart playlists set up to play my fave podcasts (like TAL) continuously. I update my ipod once a week and have the playlists set up to include the 10 least-recently listened-to shows.

My old ipod (a 20g) would continue to play those 10 shows until I synced it with my computer — only then would the listened tracks update with new ones. However, on my nano, as soon as a show is played it drops off the playlist. I have "auto-delete" selected for some shows but not all (and even still, they shows wouldn't delete until the old ipod was synced).

This is frustrating, because sometimes I want to share a podcast with someone and I can't if it drops off the nano right after it plays.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
Does the new ipod have more podcasts on it that are replacing the ones you listen to in the smart playlist? In other words, does your smart playlist still have 10 podcasts in it after the just-listened-to podcast drops out? Perhaps your new ipod is capable of applying the smart playlist logic on the fly, while your old ipod could only update itself when connected to iTunes.

FWIW, the podcast is still on your ipod, it's just not in the playlist anymore. The ipod won't delete a file completely until connected to your computer.

I love smart playlists and tolerate iTunes only because they're so awesome.

Try this. I don't know if it'll work but try it anyway.

Right click on your smart playlist.
Click "Edit Smart Playlist."
Untick "Live Updating"
Click "OK"

This is what it says about "Live Updating" in the Help
To have iTunes continually modify your Smart Playlist as songs are added to or removed from your library, make sure "Live updating" is selected.

*It's a long shot*
