OMG Iguana Who knew that iguana's have taken over the Florida Keys? They're everywhere! Running wild, like dinosaurs on the plains. The population was even greater before Hurricane Wilma. They laze about and sun themselves in piles. They rest in the mangroves.

A friend of mine in college had a huge iguana which hated me. Every time I came over to the apartment, it would find a way to poop on me, my jacket, or my boots.

Stupid iguanas.

I remember the first time I saw a lizard at my grandpa's place in St. Pete. Freaked me out.

Of course it was nothing compared to the Florida cockroach in the bedroom.

Between the iguanas, the monitor lizards, the pythons, the feral hogs, the roof rats, the feral cats, and the invasive plant life, South Florida is hosed. But Cubans still want to come.

Wild, we didn't see any iguanas when we were down there in May. Lots of geckos, chickens, cats and dogs.

It's really one of the things we (in particular) enjoyed about the Keys - that symbiosis (I am using the word generously) of human and non-human animal life.

No, we didn't go to the Garden of Eden. We mostly hung around the property we were staying at, and went to Key West on one day. We did Sloppy Joes and kid stuff mostly, and then the husbands went to Irish Kevins, which is not kids stuff in the least.
