Music history is full of muscians that start out in an underground scene only to have a hit single catapult them to stardom. Treat Her Right put that story in reverse. In 1986, they had a fluke hit with the excellent, atmospheric, bluesy shaggy-dog story 'I Think She Likes Me'* (the album it came off of also includes the inspired 'I Got A Gun' which I haven't been able to dig up). Guitarist/vocalist Mark Sandman and drummer Billy Conway went on to form the nucleus of beat-punk underground legends Morphine until Sandman's untimely death in 1999. Hope you like it. *ignore the filename, the song is correctly tagged.

That's a bad thing for most artists, in a way, because they are then forced to sing that hit every show for the rest of their lives. Ug.

I'd forgotten this track. At some point I lost all my Morphine in a big robbery and now when I hear them it's like a wonderful treat.

That song (and a few others like "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" and "Walkin' On Sunshine") were such huge breaths of fresh air in the desolate top forty of that horrible decade.

also, did Country Dick Montana and Handsome Dick Manitoba ever meet, or even better duet? That'd be quite the musical double dicking.

double dicking is unsanitary ; )

Heavens. (check your messages, honey. that picture of Handsome Dick just gave me an insatiable craving)

Uh...Katrina gives me an insatiable craving, but I don't have anyone to leave a message for.

Heh. Omie, you're a great conversationalist and I'm sure you're an excellent dancer, but that was for pips. (I have a serious jones for some White Castle).

Also, just the other day I was listening to "Surrender," and I hatched the theory that the "Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright," is a response to The Who's "The Kids Are Alright."

(warning: I am possibly a crackpot, but I'm not kidding)
