sorry, dude... my Photoshop is corrupted, and I haven't been able to find my PS install CD since we moved. Can't afford the new version at the mo., so hope to find and fix soon!
taz: GIMP for Windows is free as in beer and free as in GNU. Very little, if anything Photoshop does that can't be done by GIMP. I say this as an ex-Photoshop fanboy.
Just downloaded it and started to install it, when it tells me it's going to change some file names, which may cause other programs not to work... Just kind of sitting here pondering that at the moment. It's not so much that I can't deal with changing those names back, or downloading the original dlls if I needed to, as much as the idea of trying to run some program a couple of months from now, and forgetting that it might be those renamed files causing it not to work... Hm.
Thank you, chuckdarwin, and fbk - if I don't install GIMP, or find my PS disk, I'll take you up on this.
I know that new software takes a bit of getting used to, but I'm kind of finding it unwieldy; we'll see. The first thing I did was make a screen capture (of mecha front page), and opened a new file, and found that if you have something on the clipboard and open a new file, it doesn't automatically give you the dimensions you need - you must key them in, apparently. If you don't know what they are, I guess you have to get the image info first... which is kind of a lot of fiddling around.
Okay, going to play more now. Also, where's my beer? I was promised beer.
I have to use GIMP at work because they're too stingy to let someone with my job description use it. I actively hated it at first, but it gets the job done for when I need it, so I tolerate it.
Which is a shame, because I used to have fun making LiveJournal avatar icons at work, and now I'm too hobbled by learning a new tool to make them.
