Here was my problem and Seanyboy's solution.

Some aggressive refreshing brought the correct image back, but for a while even http://metachat.org/skins/zombie/buttons.jpg
showed me the semi-happy couple instead of the buttons.

Deb, does that pic look like something from a site you've recently been to? Because mine DIDN'T.

More weird: the graphic that seanyboy posted here is the same thing I'm seeing (I assume it's supposed to be the buttons).

And no, I can't recall seeing that image anywhere else but I was reading Metafilter earlier and clicking links willy-nilly. It could have been at any one of a brazillion sites.

I'm not especially worried about it, it's just a glitch in the matrix.

Are their ads in the matrix or is this a portal to a "special" site?

I'm pretty sure it's at your end. Clear out your cache and stop any proxy servers or web accelerators.

I'm sure it's at my end as well. I did a force refresh and the buttons are back. Are you sure that's the link you wanted, seanyboy? That site looks fine to me, but I have no idea why you wanted me to go there.

PS: I'm pretty sure I don't use a proxy server (how would I know?) and I know I don't use a web accelerator.
