Hillary Clinton Campaign Song Announced -- Sopranos-style. And the winner is...
'You and I' by Celine Dion.

I suppose that's what happens when you allow Obama supporters to vote for your song.

I guess she never read the letter I sent suggesting Smokey & the Miracles' "Goin' to a Go-Go."

Seriously, this is what happens when you let anyone vote for a compaign song: it displays a lack of character and decision-making skills for Hillary to appeal to the dictatorship of the wad to, of all things, choose a song. Democracy is a last resort, a decision-maker for the tough decisions; when it's used willy-nilly, mediocrity results.

OMG, the Canadians have won.

Isn't a campaign song something the homecoming queen needs?
posted by crush-onastick 19 June | 13:01
Yay! This can't be a bad thing.

Would now be a good time to mention Celine Dion's relationship with her much-older then-manager-now-husband, which began when she was 12?

Unrelatedly: So I'm reading Hello, I'm Special, and it's okay (though I prefer the similar Nation of Rebels), but it got me thinking. The authors of both of those books, as well as Naomi Klein (No Logo) and Kalle Lasn (Adbusters) and Douglas Rushkoff and probably some other folks along those lines who I'm forgetting, are all Canadian. Is it just observation bias, or are Canadians disproportionately represented in this area of cultural criticism? If so, how come?

*beats Joe Pesci badly*

This is some horrible joke, no?
She will not win.

Marshall McLuhan was also Canadian!

Weird.

The way it goes I will have to pick who I support based on their campaign song. Shallow, but true.

Has anyone else picked campaign song yet?
posted by carmina 19 June | 13:34
carmina: I have. It's "Feeling this is like to Fall Awake" by Halou (based entirely upon the lyric "go to hell and leave me with the keys to your car").

I'm still picking mine. Between these four, which one is the best choice?

El Michels Affair - Walk On By
Archie Shepp - Attica Blues (Chief Xcel remix)
Ghostface Killah - Good Times
Eight Minutes - I Can't Get No Higher

"are Canadians disproportionately represented in this area of cultural criticism? If so, how come?"

Box, Harold Innis wrote one of the seminal texts on communication theory and looked at how the nature of a medium creates it's own bias. The U of Toronto has the The McLuhan Program. Canadians really lead the charge on media/cultural commentary in the 20th century.

I have to say that I loved Bill's reaction to the carrot sticks.

If Hillary can go with the brain-dead Canadian, surely I can go with the actually-dead Jamaican.

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Get Up, Stand Up

Bonus: inspirational lyrics.

My campaign song for 2012 will be The Committee For Administration Of the Lower Provinces Presents "Hail To Our Benevolent Canadian Interim Administrators (Euro-Dance Mix)"

I cannot support anyone who supports Celine Dion. Especially after that time I saw her sing AC/DC. I'd link to a YouTube of it, but I don't want to subject any of you to the deep, painful bruise to the soul that can only result from seeing Celine Dion play air guitar.
posted by jrossi4r 19 June | 14:42
jrossi, I missed the AC/DC thing but I have PTSD from seeing her do Michael Jackson's Bad.
posted by arse_hat 19 June | 14:58
My god, arse. I had no idea she did that too. Will no one stop her? What's next...Public Enemy?

Here's the link for those of you brave enough to click. You might be confused and think it's a scene from Saw or Hostel or some depiction of brutal torture. But sadly, it's not fiction.

It's hard to think of a woman as unappealing as Celine Dion. I remember a mag cover where she's posing with her baby and has about 5/8" of makeup on. If I am that baby, I'm gagging.

Hate the song, love the Sopranos homage.

Easy. If you don't have the talent, critize those who do! ;) I keed, I keed

crush, I just saw your comment! Anyone who picks this song for their campaign has my vote.

A Sopranos homage?!? Like the Clintons haven't spent the last 15 years denying they had people knocked off?
posted by wendell 19 June | 17:15
carmina: are you familiar with it? If not, enjoy: halou.
posted by crush-onastick 19 June | 17:20
It's official. I can't vote for Hillary.

But I'm glad that, after all the debates and newspaper stories and looks at her voting history, I finally have something solid to make my decision stick.

Al Gore would never allow Celine Dion to sing his campaign song. Where is Al Gore when we need him?

Never heard of it.

Althouse’s Clinton obsession.

"Conservative law professor and blogger Ann Althouse last year raised a storm with a post titled, 'Let’s take a look at those breasts,' attacking Feministing’s Jessica Valenti for 'wear[ing] a tight knit top that draws attention to her breasts' in a photograph with President Clinton. Now, Althouse has turned her analytical powers to a video featuring Bill and Hillary Clinton doing a spoof of the final episode of the Sopranos:

Bill says 'No onion rings?' and Hillary responds 'I’m looking out for ya.' Now, the script says onion rings, because that’s what the Sopranos were eating in that final scene, but I doubt if any blogger will disagree with my assertion that, coming from Bill Clinton, the 'O' of an onion ring is a vagina symbol.

Althouse’s students at the University of Wisconsin must feel so proud."

Methinks Althouse is overthinking that plate of beans onion rings carrot sticks.

This blogger says that if they'd really wanted to go down that road, Bill would have asked for the taco platter instead.

it's a good spoof, but is it a good idea to pay an hommage to a scene that ends with the main character getting a bullet in the brain? it's kinda creepy when you think about it
