My first Metafilter FPP and maybe some poster's remorse right from the start.[More:] Does it bode well when the first comment includes the word douchebag more than once?
It bodes Metafilter. Nice post. You have nothing to be remorseful of.

It's a fine post, lilywing. I was captivated by Frida Kahlo's work when I saw an exhibit a few years ago (I don't remember where it was - either MFA in Boston, MOCA, the Met, or somewhere else entirely).

Thanks so much, y'all. It's really silly how nervous I got actually making the post in the first place.

The first one never comes easy, but you'll get used to it. Just keep on posting things.

Just imagine them all in their underwear when you post.

Nice post, nothing to worry about at all. My first post got ignored for about 24 hours, then received the dreaded "THIS is best of the web???" snark. (Oh, how I loathe that BotW phrase -- it makes my skin crawl almost as much as hearing Bush's voice does, but that's another rant.) A couple of douchebags is no big deal -- not everyone's going to like every link, but that's part of what keeps things interesting.

That's a great FPP.

One eyebrow up for that one. Actually, it's two eyebrows up - it just looks like one eyebrow.
Thanks very much for the nice words, everyone.

I'd thought about waiting until her actual birthday (July 6th) to make the post, and then changed my mind. After putting the thing together, I was damned if I was going to lose the "race" and have it be a double.

I've always been interested in female artists, but I never quite appreciated Kahlo's work until I'd watched the movie and then read the bio I listed in the post. I used to find it morbid and gory. Now I look at it and say, "Lordy, that woman could paint!"

I relish well-put-together, informative posts with interesting web content, especially in a day full of single-link-post-to-political-shite-or-news-of-the-weird (I'm looking at YOU, stynxno! *smiley face to denote playful jesting*).

What muddgirl said. This is my favorite kind of post, and yours is well crafted. No matter what detractors say, I really enjoy posts that bring something to my awareness and provide some interesting reading right on the MeFi front page, and then allow me to delve a little deeper if I choose by following links. Sometimes this kind of post can create interest where none existed before, and I always learn a little something. Well done, and do more!

I laughed out loud to read that opening quote - the more so because I had a brief conversation about Diego Rivera this week, so he was in my mind already. Nicely done!

I do it for the emoticons.

I don't go to the blue much anymore but if the majority of posts were like this one I might. Well done lilywing.

A few words describing who Kahlo was would have helped immensely.

That's a great first fpp. At least they weren't calling YOU a douchebag. On my first fpp, there was actually a MeTa written because Mr_Crash_Davis attacked me so hard people thought it was cruel.

Wow, that's a great first post lilywing!

Welcome to the club--no one gets out alive you know:)
