My local corner store has started carrying these and these. Hugh Janus says they've been around for years, but I've never seen them. But they're 35 cents a pack and taste OK, although I have no idea why they've suddenly shown up here.
I used to eat those when I was a kid. (They looked like the ones in your second link.) And my mom said that SHE used to eat them as a kid. They were yummy to me then- no idea what I'd think of them now.
They seem to be a southern thing, which makes me wonder how they wound up in a Bangladeshi owned corner beer-smokes-and-candy store in Queens. (not that I'm complaining, just thinking out loud).

They're still tasty. Just about everything that was tasty to me as a kid is still tasty to me now. My developement wasn't just arrested, it was convicted and sentenced to life.
I think they're more common down South. My childhood friend's ma used to bring them up with her from family visits down in Raleigh and Rocky Mount, NC, along with great big tubs of Gardner's barbecue and a few sweet potato pies made by her mother, who made it easier not to have grandmothers of my own by pinching my cheek and calling me a "tall glass of milk" when she came up to Maryland for summer holidays.
I never really understood the mania for Stage Planks, though I sure miss my friend's grandma.
