Last weekend I went to the graduation of my homeschooled nephew. My sister is Fundamentalist Christian and lives alone on a farm in Orland, California. I decided to make it a photography project to entertain myself.
Nice photos miss lynster. Congrats to your handsome nephew.
There's a church in my town that always displays witty messages on their marquee. I should take some pics sometime. I'm not a religious person in the least, but the messages always make me smile.
My art project for this week is to make sand castles. The kids are waiting for their tired and lazy parents to load up the truck for the beach.
Well, I actually had a difficult time with the religious portion of the weekend (which is partly why I turned to art). Especially the pastor who chose to turn his graduation sermon into a whole "there's a culture war" anti-Islam rant. If you look, half of his right ear is missing. It looked like it was bitten off. I asked my sister and she said, "When he was young he was a sinner and used to drink and do drugs. He got into a fight in a bar and someone bit his ear off. He has had opportunities to get plastic surgery but he told them he wanted to keep it the way it is to remind himself of who he used to be." Seemed to me he probably just likes being able to show it to everyone else & tell them his dramatic "I was a sinner" story. But that's me.
My sister, who is heavy duty born again, home schools her kids. She has toned down the evangelical bent, so is much easier to be around, but all her kids are well behaved and polite. Even the ones who went wild and pierced everything after leaving home. She's a really good teacher, too - always has been. But yeah, until she backed off with the bible thumping I kept my distance.
