What are your plans for the weekend? [More:]I have to mow the lawn, till a couple areas in the yard, put down some pavers in one of the tilled areas (so that I can move the grill off the sidewalk that goes from the house to the garage and also decrease my mowing area - two birds with many stones...er, pavers), go shopping for some walking/running/athletic shoes (will probably find shoes I like, try them on, then order online), maybe go see a movie (Ocean's Thirteen or Spidey Man 3), take the dogs to get their nails clipped (Binky will gladly let me clip his nails but Lulu is a complete pain in the ass about it...if I'm going to take one to the groomer's then I may as well take both), and probably download some music.

Hopefully, I will get the chores done on Saturday.

Also, you people should download Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs doing their version of Super Freak. It is triple awesome good.
Since I'm still in the grips of my Strummer frenzy, we're going to hear Chris Salewicz read from his new biography of Joe (and I'll probably get my copy signed - why not?). Sunday we're supposed to have brunch with matildaben, since she was missing American-style breakfast in Europe. Other than that, I have no clue.

I just finished a batch of roll-out cookies and am high off of the frosting I kept "tasting". Tomorrow morning I will make some apple crisp while I do a few loads of laundry.

Then I will take the cookies and the crisp and the boyfriend but probably not the dog to a croquet party where I will semi-know two people and two people only. But there will be food! And croquet! And apple crisp!

There was also some discussion of doing something special and date-like, but I don't remember what was decided with that.

still in the grips of my Strummer frenzy

Hey, bmarkey, thanks again for the reminder about the Strummer movie! I just got tickets today -- the L.A. Filmfest will be having an outdoor screening of it at the Ford Amphitheater at the end of the month, with musical guests to be announced. I'm really looking forward to it. (I'll be interested to hear how the Salewicz reading goes, too. You're like the front guard in all Strummer-related topics!)

Tonight I went to yoga, then watched the Jonestown documentary. Really chilling. (The documentary, that is, not yoga. Yoga was fine.)

Tomorrow: working on my freelance project (I'm a freakin' broken record on this score), then my every-other-week girls' night out with my best friend -- we'll probably see Waitress and go out for dinner.

Sunday: maybe the gym? Definitely the Sopranos finale, then going to a comedy benefit show for Virginia Tech at the theater a friend of mine runs -- my comic crush, Bob Odenkirk, will be among the performers. Woot!

Homework for a session with an acting coach tomorrow morning. Although she's an acting coach, she also does private 1:1 sessions with people looking to improve their presentation/public speaking skills, which is what I'm doing with her.

Also: baby sitting my niece again tonight and, as long as the trains are running okay tomorrow, going to London to see The Thermals. Yay! Oh, and apparently the Tour De France is swinging through my town tomorrow (even though I don't live in France), so I might have a look at that.

Getting together with my brothers and sisters-in-law for the Ceremonial Consumption of Charred Animal Parts and Beer, postponed from Memorial Day on account of weather; launching the gargantuan task of cleaning out the basement, which contains a 25-year accumulation of *crap*; and, like scody, watching the Sopranos finale, after which I anticipate a few hours on the TWOP forum.

Friday was our version of Father's Day since my dad works away from home for 3 weeks at a time. We went and had some drinks at a pub that also has free oysters that day, then dinner at a nice restuarant.

Today is WoW, possibly cleaning my apt, going to a Celebration of Life service for a friend's wife, going out to my parent's to visit with them and my sis and her bf who decided to come visit this week. We will also have charred animal parts and beer.

Tomorrow is part labbing, other possibility for apt cleaning and more WoW. I'm trying to get some PvPing done so I can earn some nice items.

We're poor, and it's hella hot/humid, so we have the first disk of Season 1: Weeds, Mrs. Brown, and Stranger than Fiction queued up for the DVD. And the usual boring domestics: laundry, de-hairing the house, etc.

This afternoon we're going to the in-laws to swim and eat. Tomorrow we're doing the beach and watching the Soprano's finale. I want to ask my parents if they want to join us tomorrow, but I can't call them just yet. I think they went out last night, and they still may be sleeping. My parent's social life is ten times more lively than mine.

My house is actually sparkling since I had guests over a few days ago. So no housework for me this weekend. Or yard work either, even if it should be done. My car needs to be cleaned and washed badly, so I'll force myself to do that.

Work today, then tomorrow we're having my mom over for a cookout in honor of her 65th birthday.

Market Square Day in Portsmouth (first time going - tis' supposeda be some big ole' time).

Reading my new Job Search Handbook from the Harvard School of Biz.

Writing, feeding the cat, and discovering why bugs with enough meat on 'em to be felt through a thick rag are suddenly appearing on the countertops here.

New plans. Just got invited to another pool party for tomorrow afternoon. I'm having severe bathing suit body angst.

I'm in Memphis for the weekend. Tonight, a good woman is taking me to the Botanical Gardens here for the Chicago concert. Hey, we're old, they're old, but we remember when they weren't and we weren't. Probably get some Memphis barbeque beforehand, and hit some bars on Beale Street after. Tomorrow, we'll get a NYT and make coffee and read the paper and get buzzed on caffeine(it takes so little these days). Then, there's the Mid-South Pride Parade, always a good time. Sunday night, maybe a movie, or we go to Southhaven to see 2 Mule Plow open for Poke Chop's Hardrollers at Huey's in Cordova. Monday evning, maybe a minor league baseball game, or any movie we can both agree on (been trying to do that with this broad for 37 years).

Due to boot on car (!@#$%!) cannot go anywhere, so instead will clean out old refrigerator and set aside things for tag sale; clean house. Tomorrow Koreans will come to take old fridge to church.

Must get smoke smell out of house before Koreans show up. Also hide all signs of any improper behavior from said Koreans. Stupid Presbyterians will start praying for me if they discover I drink booze and have sex with my boyfriend.

So for me: Cleaning frenzy.

Spending weekend with Cute Girl(friend). Wine tasting in Sonoma today, dinner tonight, undecided plans tomorrow -- and then the Sopranos. She's seen the first two episodes of the show, but I might make her watch the last one with me. Can't decide if that's cruel or not.

Today: Making strawberry-goat cheese bruschetta. I'm not sure if I have enough goat cheese, so a trip to Whole Foods may be in order. Then attending a friend's graduation from 8th grade, then to another friend's 24th birthday party where I pop my karaoke cherry. *freaks out*

Tomorrow: Probably sleeping, some WoW, maybe the gym.

My plan was to get better and go to the airport tomorrow to meet our own Matildaben and doodle shoutouts on napkins until she had to catch her next flight. Last night I caught the stomach flu and I was driving the porcelain bus all night and this morning and my prayers to the porcelain god mainly consisted of "please let me get better by Sunday morning" because for some reason, I thought the ninth of June was on Sunday. Man did I mess up, poor Matildaben emailed me from the airport wondering where I was and I didn't even check email until now. :(

That sucks. Since I had planned it, I'm still going to Copenhagen tomorow to pick baby-daddy as he's staying there over night. Maaaaaaaaaaaan. Sucky. And I thought that I couldn't feel any worse. I waas so looking forward to doing shoutouts too (silly of me, I know)

Power washed the deck, if I have time put on sealant. If the weather is good, I'll do some outside paint touch-up.

Baked some banana bread for church tomorrow.

I anticipate much tickling of the children.

I managed to do three unaided pull-ups today! Yee-Haw!

(Later in the workout, I did another set three jumping pull-ups. Which I suppose you could call cheating. Me, I like to call it practice.)

After that, everything else is gravy.

Got up, went for a LONG walk in the rain with Wife. Up into the hills so we could feed the cats of a friend of hers.

Took a nap, then went to the lumber yard to get stuff to start the deck (since I don't have lymphoma, I have to build this deck now).

Getting ready to go to a grad party for one of Daughter's friends since baby-hood.

Tomorrow, starting deck, then gym and grocery shopping.

It's raining here, which is actually quite nice.

Saturday: last minute shopping, hanging out with family, packing.
Sunday: travel to Ethiopia for 3 months.

(and since there are a lot of "update plans" threads, I'll answer for the next three months as well (lack of internet): practice my bad Amharic and watch Ethiopians laugh at my pronounciation of their beautiful national language. Have fun and work.

:)

Well, Chicago stunk. So bad, we started giggling about it. As in, the horns played flat, compared to the synth "strings." Tempos were waaaaaaa... aaa... aay slow on some numbers, like the guys were trying to remember the changes and the lyrics. We left halfway through, when it was all we could do to keep from yelling "Freebird!" at the top of our lungs.

Ah, well. It's early in the summer tour season. Maybe they'll get things together in a couple of weeks. Always sad to see the mighty, fallen, even if the measure of "mighty" is only how well they compare to their records of 35 years ago, as if they'd aspired to become human jukeboxes, growing up. But if you play, note for note, those old record arrangements, or try to, you're gonna live and die by those old sounds and the comparisons you invite. Tonight, these guys died in Memphis.

Otherwise, it was a lovely night, weatherwise, and a beautiful sunset. And we had fun people watching. 85% of the crowd was grey headed. 10% were bald. There were no crying babies.

Let's see, it's Sunday as I write this....

Friday: drive to Ohio and play a show. check

Saturday: drive back from Ohio, blow a tire in PA, have a stripped lug nut and smashed fuel line, get towed, repaired and come back hella sunburnt from standing out next to the van for hours. check.

Sunday: catch up with work? naw. Let's just watch bad tv on dvd instead.
