Whoa! 49? I'm shocked.

I was just obsessively listening to Sign of the Times, one of my favorite Prince albums (in part because it's got a gogo song on it, DC represent!), and thinking about how much he does right. It's just so great, almost every song is a gem, even The Cross ends up being good for the musicality of it. But something like The Ballad of Dorothy Parker? Forget about it. Next time I'll take a bubble bath!

I do wish that he'd left The Cross off the cds and included DMSR instead, I have to go back to record to hear that, which is never too bad, but I would like to listen to it in the car.

omie, the later pressings of "1999" include DMSR on 'em... it was left off for many years, but it's there now.

"Sign O the Times" is a brilliant, brilliant album, but I can never pick a favorite Prince album; I definitely have a handful of favorites, but I can never narrow it down to just one.

chewie: me too!! :)

Oh, man, BP, I've got starfish and coffee all over my face. I was so used to not hearing it on CD that I got my albums confused. I'll have to pick up a newer pressing of 1999.

Come to think of it, I haven't listened to that album in too long. Lady Cab Driver and Let's Pretend We're Married are two of my favorite Prince songs.

BP do you have The Black Album on CD? I've only got an old tape from back in the day. I'd love to have the songs digitally, I'd trade something (not Prince) for them. (I mean, it's not great, but having it at a certain point was pretty special to me, and I've always loved Bob George.)

And what makes it particularly galling is that as I was listening to So'TT I was driving for some hours and I had a long-winded debate with myself about whether or not the album would be better or worse with DMSR in place of The Cross. I have to tell you, I can be a convincing guy, so it was a toss up as to how the final ruling would come down, and then there was some dirty pool (I won't go into it here, but Prince isn't the only sexy motherfucker around), and I decided that yes, it would be acceptable to have left of The Cross for DMSR. Now I feel dirty and a little used, and to think it was all for naught.

Heh heh heh, omie... :D I think it's kind of cool that you came up with an "alternate reality" version of SOTT like that!

I do have the Black Album- both the old "unofficial" release, and then the official one that Warner Bros. released when they and Prince weren't on speaking terms. Drop me an email and we'll work something out.

If you and BP can't work out a trade, I've also got a (WB) Black Album CD that I'd be willing to swap.

As I say EVERYTIME Prince is mentioned here on Metachat, I love Prince.

And, as I've said before once or twice, I REALLY wish he'd do an acoustic record/tour/whatever.
