Brits Lose 855,000 Phones Down Toilets Each Year "Hold on, mate. Yeah, I can still 'ear 'ya...roight, roight, I'm a bit slug-nutty...heading for the loo...oh, shite, gurgle, gurgle!
A study of over 1,000 people in the UK found that 855,000 phones were accidentally flushed down toilets, over 800,000 were left in pubs and nearly 250,000 were left on buses.

Wow, thats 1,905 phones each. I guess it's true what they say about Brits and alcohol.

That is almost 1 million. There aren't even that many people in the UK, let alone England (in other words, London).

But think about that sentence for a minute - how does that make any kind of sense? How would studying (however they did it) 1000 people show that 855,000 phones were accidentally flushed down toilets? It makes no sense at all!

Same as any other study. Get results from a representative sample, and then multiply up to the size of the population.
