Randy Vanwarmer, always sounded to me like the nom de plume of a Winnipeg street hooker c. 1978. Sadly the amazing song writer died at just 48 years old.
At the tender age of 16 and with late night access to a TV studio I met a 6 foot 4 inch (even before the 6 inch stainless steel heels) stripper and brought her in for an audition of some sort. I really can't imagine what I must have told her. Knock on wood was the theme song.
AH yes - I remember these well - I'd just discovered the radio in 7th grade or so. I really liked Magnet and Steel from your previous 1 hit wonder post (thanks! :), and remember blaring Knock on Wood on the way to & from my after school job. Others from that era (though not one hitters) include Cruel to be Kind, We are Family, and The Things We Do for Love. If I had 'em, I'd post 'em, sorry
Sweet Sensations were a group of lads from Manchester who entered a UK talent contest in the early 70s called 'New Faces'. They were signed up by one of the judges, Tony Hatch, who used to play the Simon Cowell Mr Nasty role, but he was a very shrewd composer and record producer (although the theme tune to 'Crossroads' is unforgiveable).
It's hard to believe this is an English song, it sounds like a lovely bit of Philly mid-70s soul with a great Michael Jackson vibe to the vocal.
Thanks arse. These are great, as were the three previously. Just When I Needed You Most reminds me of my best friend. She loved these sappy love songs.
When I hear Bad Case of Lovin' You I always think of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. I always thought they did this song -- it sounds like them. I must be hearing the Robert Palmer version.
My iTunes on the laptop is quite the electic mix thanks to MetaChat. I've got the Holmes Brothers, Ramsay Midwood, Fountains of Wayne, and a bunch of other people I've never heard of. It's quite the contrast to my other playlist that is filled with well-known artists and smash hits.
