Need recipe ideas for mixed seafood. I found a mexican "deli" that sells a seafood mix for $2.99 / pound. The mix is mainly octopus and mussels, but also includes shrimp, crab (both real and fake) and scallops. [More:]

That's it! It's not a salad nor has anything been added to it. They steam up new batches every morning, at noon and late afternoon, so it is as fresh as you can get (in Vegas anyway).

Now, what can I do with this? Ordinarily, I don't have a problem coming up with ideas because something like this would ordinarily be a treat and the gourmet in me kicks in. However, at this price I can eat this everyday, so I need something more in the line of common and ordinary.

The obvious is seafood salads, of course, and right now, I have a plate in front of me with fresh salsa, a splash of lime juice and fresh chopped cilantro. Tomorrow, I will make either a stir-fry or a chowder or maybe even a gumbo.

But what else? Ordinarily something like this is such a delicacy, I would pretty much eat it as is, but at this price I can almost consider it a staple.

So, toss some ideas my way, especially ethnic ideas. I have east coast (both north and south) as well as mexican covered. I think something cajun beyond the obvious would be good. Also, greek and north african? Perhaps japanese? Australian? Kiwi?
Not just octopus, but squid too!

Oh, great, nola! ... and I know where I can get banana flower and preserved turnip, too. That sounds absolutely awesome. Thank you!

How about some adaptation of a Hawaiian poke salad? I know it takes raw fish, but still (I love that stuff... - if you're ever in Santa Cruz, CA, try the one they serve at Pink Godzilla)

There's a recipe for West Indies salad (a Mobile, Alabama specialty) on cooks.com.

Nobody's mentioned a cioppino? Mmm, boy howdy!

And you can cheat and get a cioppino simmer sauce at Trader Joe's if there's one nearby.

Ceviche? I had this in Peru, on the coast, and it was pretty damned tasty. I saw many varieties including one that was chock full of seafood.

Seafood paella? My favorite spanish restaurant makes a delicious one.

Paella?

It's an easily adaptable dish and seems like it would work well with what you have. That's a steal at that price. I'm jealous.

An idea so nice, we had to say it twice.

Cioppino was the first thing I thought of too. Link goes to my version of it. With tomatoes coming into season...mmmmmm.

Well, muddgirl and Otis beat me to it. I love a good paella. Mmmmmm. My hubby whips it together with rice and beans, even, along with the seafood. For other ideas, why not try Allrecipes.com? I can find almost everything I'm looking for there.
