I heard my mama cry. I heard her pray the night Chicago died. Written by some Brits who didn't know Chi town. Still, a great song. Billy Don't Be A Hero.
Both of these are in my collection of Guilty Pleasures.

Oddly, the "Billy" song became a US hit at the hands of an American cover band "Bo Donaldson and the Haywoods" (what could sound more American?), but they lost the battle to the originals for "Chicago". So, most American Pop Music listeners, Paper Lace was a One Hit Wonder, while Brits knew it was a Two Hit Wonder.

Why am I channeling Casey Kasem?

OMG, I used to adore Paper Lace. They won a TV talent show, Opportunity Knocks, when I was about 13 and all the girls at school loved them. They wore Civil War uniforms (they fought for the Union, as far as I recall).

I got this one as well, and Perle is crazy for it. :)

I have a 45 of Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods version of 'Billy..' and the two toughest women I've ever met both say that was the first 45 they ever owned. Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods apparently also did a cover of Sweet's 'Teenage Rampage' that I almost managed to get a hold of once.

I'd've sworn that was the Paper Lace version of "Billy" that I remembered here in the States, but then, the groups sounded somewhat alike to 14-year-old ears.

I'd forgotten how much I like this song.

Thanks arse_hat. . .but then you have some "making up" to do after that "boomerang" song.
I remember that there was that song, but I had NO recollection how offensive it was. It goes so far into offensiveness that it comes out the other side, to cool. . .
