This is just a modern blog post. [More:] It's a long walk to the university internet center, long enough to listen to half of "Isn't Anything" (with volume turned up real high to cancel out the street noise). Then it's up the stairs, past the guard, down the hall, to the right, through a door, past another guard, down the hall, down the stairs, past yet another guard... I don't know what they need all these guards for. Maybe it's because unemployment is real high in this city. Anyway, once you get past all these guards, you can finally use your university internet account. They give you three hours of unpaid internet time each week, of which I still have about 20 minutes left, so I'd better hurry up.

It's strange that I hadn't realized, until lately, that all places have a distinct smell. The staircase leading to the internet center, for instance, smells of cheap tobacco (like the room in front of my grandfather's study, where he kept all his carpenter's tools). Most places smell of dust, some -- of piss. The hallways in my hostel smell of frying oil and fried fish.

I'm starting to run out of time now. I really wish I had more of it. Unfortunately, I can't provide you with any photos at the moment; you'll have to make do with these pictures I just attempted to draw.
Daniel!!!

Your photos, as imagined in my head, are lovely. Very evocative.

I really miss walking around my University campus at night. (Is it night where you are?) Your post made me relive some of that. Thanks!

I don't know if you can call it a university campus. It's more like someone accidentally dropped four dormitories somewhere in the middle of a busy city. I don't think it's correct to talk about a campus in a city of such scale (for me, 'campus' always associates with 'campus town'), even though there are some other university buildings nearby. Or, at most, at the distance of a thirty-minute walk.
