13 April 2007

I could talk about lunch all day. For lunch today, I went to the Wild Oats, where I bought a chicken pesto club sandwich with no tomato and extra peppers, a bottle of extra-ginger ginger ale and a box of blackberries. Sounds pretty tasty, huh? Did you eat lunch yet? What did you have? Will you eat lunch soon?
box lunch!

Stouffer's frozen french bread pizza (it doesn't really have that much more fat the lean ones, I just found out), an orange, a generic brand chewy granola bar, diet "Mountain Lion" in a can.

I just had a late lunch, early dinner. I did a supermarket run today, so I had lots to choose from. I had porridge for breakfast and home-made vegetable soup at about 11.30. I cooked a ham today and when it was done, I had a couple of cuts from that, with some cheese, an apple and a pear. Heavy on the protein, but that suits me.

Later this evening I'll have some strawberries and yoghurt.

'Mountain Lion' is the best name for a fake Mountain Dew that I've ever heard, even better than 'Hillbilly Joose.'

I had an early lunch of a slice of cheese pizza, and a late lunch of a cheese sandwich. I forgot to bring my usual apple snack, but I still have a bagel hanging around if I can't make it until 5.

Campbells soup - I think it was chicken tortilla, not very good, and a cheese biscuit from the health food store, which was very good. And an Honest Tea, gold rush cinnamon flavor which is my current fave.

Cabbage rolls, baba ghannouj, a little fatoush, and some lentil soup. Dinner will be decidedly on the frugal side.

I rolled hummus and caramelized walnuts up in romaine leaves....OMG. I drank chai. I also had banana ice cream. I make it myself - it's just bananas and a little liquid. No dairy or anything. Here's the recipe. TRY THIS.

Good For You Banana Ice Cream

Peel 2/3 bananas and break each one into a few chunks. Put in a baggie and freeze all day.

Put them into your blender or your food processor. Add just a wee bit of either orange juice, maple syrup, or coconut milk, to get the bananas moving. Basically you just want to grind them up into a custard. Add small amounts of your lquid, a half teaspoon at a time, until the bananas are blended. Eat.

This is so good for you, especially if you fresh squeeze an orange and add that for your liquid - the ice cream is then 100% fruit and yet it's super thick, sweet, and ultra creamy. If you have it with the maple syrup you'll refuse to believe it isn't real ice cream. After you taste it you will want to have my babies.

If you use a blender, you may have to stop a couple of times and attack the bananas with a spoon to get them to move on top. You'll get the hang of it.

ico, that sounds delicious.

I already wanted to have your babies, but now that I know you attack bannanas with spoons I'm having second thoughts.

No lunch today, so I'll tell you about dinner. I think I'll make roasted sweet potatoes: cubed, dredged in chili-spiked flour, tossed in olive oil, and roasted. We'll also have kale, blanched, mixed with sauteed mushrooms and sherry-garlic bechamel, then baked until the crumb topping gets crusty. On the side, broccoli with lemon and butter. Maybe corn bread; the fella loves corn bread.

While the oven's hot, I'm definitely making oatmeal raisin bars. I use whole wheat flour instead of white, add some flaxseed meal, halve the butter, and substitute molasses for some of the white sugar. Oh, and steam the raisins (or dried cranberries) in kirsch before adding them to the batter. That's good eating. That's good eating.

Working from home today so I did not have my usual, instead I had three eggs over medium on a corn tortilla with some cheese and salsa on top. That was about 4 and a half hours ago and frankly this thread has me a bit hungry again.

A can of tuna and two glasses of grapefruit juice.

Wow, sidebar. Okay, so, today, my lunch was an everything bagel with smoked turkey, pepper jack cheese and chipotle ranch sauce; two tangelos and an IPA from one of the local microbreweries.

A Riblet. 250 calories. I am just about to target weight before our vacation. Otherwise I would have had a huge plate of cheese fries and some pizza. Since I seriously went on the diet and started working out like a madman I am constantly hungry, and I can't stop thinking about pizza and fries.

But OMG Elsa that dinner sounds totally fantastic.

This post has some serious legs. Okay, today, for lunch, I ate a slice of pizza with zucchini and squash on it, a tangerine and a cup of green tea with ginger.

What's a Riblet, tr33?

i just made a ridiculous amount of sesame noodles and if i could stop from shoving it in my face, i would take a picture.
i used soba for the first time because some, i think Specklet, mentioned it once.

Dip and Spread Specials on the Night Bus tonight lets you mix and match tapenade, hummus, white bean dip, mushroom pate and hot artichoke and spinach dip with an assortment of pitas, chips, crackers and crusty French baguette.

If there's anything I like better than combinations and permutations, it's dips and spreads.

I skipped breakfast, so for elevenses I just had a little sandwich with some of this amazing Stilton, which I'm currently addicted to. Yum!

It made me rather peckish, so lunch later on will probably be the steak I'm supposed to have for my dinner tonight, with some purple sprouting broccoli, and boiled-fried potatoes to use up the duck fat I have left over from last night's confit de canard.

(Yes, I am probably going to die young.)

Looks nice, jack_mo. I didn't know Mellis had a shop in Glasgow; their Edinburgh shops are like cheese heaven.

box - it's essentially a vegetarian version of a McRib minus the bun, made by Gardenburger. They're dang tasty!
