I need help with Outlook 2003. I have 2003 at work. I also have personal emails at work that I'm going to take with me on my last day. I only have what I think is Outlook 2000 at home and have read that the .pst files used by 2003 cannot be read by any older versions of Outlook. If I save each message as a .msg file, will I be able to open it older versions of Outlook?
I know I can actually try this, but I keep forgetting.
I think we have Outlook 2003 at work too. I have Outlook 2002 on this computer, although I don't use it (I use Outlook Express instead). I just tried saving an email in Outlook as a .msg and then opening it in OE - I thought it might be 'openable' as a .eml file in OE, but no luck.

So I saved it as a .txt instead and it opened in Notepad wit no problem.

So if all you want is the actual text of the emails (including the sender's details, which are at the head of the Notepad document) then save them as .txt on your desktop or somewhere and send them as attachments to your home address (AND a Gmail or Yahoo address too, in case they go wappy through Outlook).

Microsoft Knowledge Base sez what to do. You need to create a new PST specifically in the older format, then copy the messages from to that PST.

Can't you just forward them to your home e-mail address?

I don't want to forward them because there are several hundred. I had searched the Microsoft discussion groups for several hours and didn't come across a clear answer. The article stilicho linked is exactly what I needed to do.

Also, to answer my first question for myself - can a .msg file saved in Outlook 2003 be opened with an older version of Outlook? No.

Thanks!!
