Lori, it's possible to pick up a plantar wart from going barefoot -- had one years ago; it was small & so nothing worse than a minor nuisance. It itched and burned, and sometimes it ached a little. Athlete's foot itches and hurts too, but it's more like dead skin sloughing off with shiny red new skin underneath.
