New dog update. (Because you care.) →[More:]Yay. Today was new dog day (for those of you who might have missed the 8,097 reminders in IRC or on this site.) And the new dog does not disappoint! He is far more laid back and mellow than Lulu is. They said that he was a pug/chihuahua mix but I think they are wrong about the chihuahua part because his legs are too long for either pug OR chihuahua. There's definitely pug in there but the legs scream something else. Not sure what the other part is - not sure I really care because he's a super good dog.
He's twice as tall as Lulu. So far there haven't been any accidents in the house (the shelter didn't know if he was housebroken or not) - he's just the most chill dog ever! I put him in the crate in the car so there wouldn't be any issues between the two dogs on the way home since they had just met. He slept most of the trip home except for the times when Lulu was barking at him because she wanted to get his attention.
When we got home and got out of the car the two of them started romping in the yard like they were old buddies! There was an issue later where Lulu freaked out because I gave Pork Chop a treat. (Lulu is weird and territorial about food/treats.) When Lulu freaked out Pork Chop just looked at her like she was insane. It's going to take Lulu some time to get over not being the only dog. And that's fine because I expected it.
Right now I've got Lulu crated because Pork Chop was acting tired and like he didn't want to play anymore. Pork Chop is lying on an old flannel quilt on the floor next to me! Pork Chop is also on antibiotics for the next three weeks because of the gash on his leg from getting hit by a car. (He ended up at a private shelter because his new owners turned him over to animal control because they didn't want to deal with the vet bills or taking care of his leg. And animal control wasn't sure how much it would cost them to get the leg fixed. It turns out the leg didn't need surgery, it's not broken and he just needs antibiotics.)
