Asparagus, morels and pea shoots! Oh my! The Portland Farmer's Market opens for the season tomorrow. I am SO happy about this!
I like that website! What are you going to get? I want vidalia onions and asparagus and Jerusalem artichokes for my special Easter morning quiche.

What are you going to get?

Other than
Asparagus, morels and pea shoots! Oh my!
?

Hopefully, some sort of baby potatoes, and, if available, baby heirloom carrots.

And if the SuDan people are there, I'm so getting a spring chicken. Something in the 2 1/2 lb range, if I can find one. Otherwise, I'll have to go to Pastaworks or City Market and overpay for a Draper Valley chicken.

And herbs! Rosemary, sage, thyme (no parsley, though-- BOOOOOORRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!)

God damn I love the farmers' market!

Oh I'm so envious-we don't have a market like that here. What they call a "farmer's market" is a group of people selling produce out of boxes marked Dole.

But, I am making roasted asparagus to go with my mac n cheese for lunch. My husband bought a bunch thinking that they were green onions.

I love parsley! Parsley is not boring! *stern face*

I am going to our farmers' market on Saturday, and I am very excited. It actually goes year-round, but I haven't been in a long time. I am hoping for baby artichokes! And sorrel! And some sort of weird greens I have never heard of, so that I can put them in salads.

I can not tell you what a pleasure it is to live three blocks from said market. We eat so much better when it's open for business.

cortex, this might be the only time i have ever envied you for living in the part of town that you do.

What, you don't flush green when you think of the drunken PSU students breaking bottles on Clay at 2am during Finals week?

I think I'm as excited about this as you are, dersins! I need plants for my garden!

Ohhh, you inspired me to see if we have one and we do! It starts in May though.

It doesn't seem to be all that big looking at the old newsletters but it's been in existence only since 2004. Hopefully it'll continue to grow instead of fade away.
