I want to plan another SF meet-up, but we really just had one (March 11) so I'll wait
I was thinking the same thing, actually, but my total lack of scheduling in my life right now, combined with a rather healthy and well developed devil-may-care attitude, I'm pretty flighty and unreliable.
So I don't really want to be the one to start the organization and then just totally fail to appear yet again because I've been distracted once more by (music, smoke, industrial arts, art in general, pretty flowers in the garden, a purring cat, beer, something shiny).
It's not that I don't want to meet anyone. I'm just really easily distracted at the moment, and it's great.
I went, I saw, I talked, I drank beer. There were about 10 people give or take.
I think that last SF thread on MeTa didn't really work. It planned two meet-ups in one thread, and then because of the new "system" there were no reminder posts.
I would love a day time meet-up ACTIVITY, you know where we all get together and go DO SOMETHING, like go to the wave organ or climb the coit tower stairs, or go to an amusement park, something that is NOT drinking at yet another bar in the Mission.
Some people enjoy drinking in yet ANOTHER bar in the Mission. Many good times have been had that way.
Those who don't enjoy it are always welcome to organize something else. Doesn't mean it has to come at the expense of us raging, Mission-frequenting alcoholics.
What's wrong with another one? It's been about a month, there are more than enough people in the area. I think the more regular it is, the better! And I would go! My work hours have gotten a lot better, so I can now do things in the evening, like normal people.
Wimpdork made an important point as she and DaShiv and Claudia and whir and I all ambled down Valencia between stages of the last one, which is that if we plan lots of meetups, then it's no big deal if you can't make it to one or don't feel social that day or the activity doesn't appeal to you or whatever, because there'll be another one coming along shortly. Which I guess was mudpuppie's point. Also, wimpdork sensibly pointed out that there are probably about as many of us here as there are in New York, and the New York people very sensibly just post here if two or three of them are planning to hang out somewhere, and that's a meetup. We could do the same.
Anyway, March 11 feels like months ago. I'd be up for something. If anyone can think fast, I might even be up for something Easter-related, whether or not it involves booze in the Mission.
Well, Easter Sunday I'll be hanging out in Dolores Park on a blanket, watching the, er, festivities. Easter egg hunt, costumes, drag queens, Hunky Jesus contest, etc. If you want to join me, come on by.
