Tunes for ethylene! And you, if you want 'em! Here are a couple of songs I promised eth BEFORE her hard drive disaster, plus several more.[More:]

Mareva "Pourquoi pas moi?" Retrolicious French "ye-ye" from last year- props to me3dia for posting the video for this song and making me a fan. Also, Mareva's cover of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)."

I'll add more songs in comments as they upload... there are 18 in all.

The late British pop goddess Kirsty MacColl:

"In These Shoes?"

"There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis"

Gorgeous surrealism from Robyn Hitchcock:

"I Often Dream of Trains"

"Insect Mother" (RH with the Egyptians)

Angels of Light, aka Michael Gira:

"My Friend Thor"

"Simon Is Stronger Than Us"

Lily Allen, whose songs make me laugh:

"Everything's Just Wonderful"

"Alfie"

Drivin' and Cryin', an Atlanta band from my college days:

"Scarred But Smarter"

"Stand Up and Fight for It"

The brilliant Jarvis Cocker, who's solo debut finally comes out in the U.S. this week:

"Don't Let Him Waste Your Time"
(he wrote that one for Nancy Sinatra)

"Disney Time" (a creepy, creepy song, despite the title)
posted by BoringPostcards 03 April | 06:16
Speaking of creepy, former Velvet Underground dude John Cale:

"Paris 1919" (nice song)

"Guts" (evil song)

And finally, some sunny jangly pop music from Tullycraft:

"8 Great Ways"

"Bee Sting Stings"

thank you so much for the Kirsty McColl tracks! 'In these shoes' always makes me smile.

You're welcome, Alto!

I've toyed with the idea of posting one Kirsty track a week for a whole year... I may yet do that. Not that I'm obsessed with her, or anything.

Heh heh! Hassle away, eth.

And Nucleo, that Mareva song's a hoot, isn't it?

posted by BoringPostcards 03 April | 12:04
i could always use more Mareva, but i have to run in twenty minutes.
*hopes for more surprises in the interim*

Ooh, thanks, you know how much i'd like to raid your music anyway.

No probs - the KOL track is from their new album out this week. The Fields track is from their debut album, also out this week - they're a new, promising UK group.
posted by TheDonF 03 April | 16:44
i've heard good things about the Fields and wanted to hear them.
posted by ethylene 03 April | 16:49
Like this Malclom Middleton, never heard of him before.
posted by ethylene 03 April | 17:13
Malcolm Middleton is a dour Scotsman who used to be in a group called Arab Strap. Before they split he had a couple of solo albums out that were critically well received in the UK. That track is off his latest album, A Brighter Beat, which is only marginally less misrerable.
posted by TheDonF 03 April | 17:50
Ah, i'd only just gotten some Arab Strap before the crash.
This has been a really nice little collection to listen to.
i'd never really given the Cardigans a chance but i've heard a few decent songs by them now so i'm not so prejudiced, and i love the new arcade fire.

I can't kick in anything at the moment, since I'm at work, but I'll be glad to throw something together when I get home. Any parameters (likes, dislikes, allergies) would be helpful.
posted by bmarkey 03 April | 17:59
Is the whole KOL as good?

bmark, whatever you wanna give the people to listen to would be great.

That Cardigans track is from Long Gone Before Daylight, a fantastic album that somewhat killed their career; people were expecting more Erase/Rewind stuff, but instead the band brought out a collection of slower elegiac tunes.

Overall, the KOL is rather fine indedd. That track is the opener. You can tell that they've been playing with larger, stadium bands because the whole sound of the album is larger and slightly more polished.
