Update! My office is now orange. With white spongepaint. [More:]And it's like being inside a creamsicle or something and I totally adore it. It's way better than my house. Now I have to start working so they don't fire me for being a slacker and I lose my lovely, lovely office.
Creamsicle! No wonder it looks so yummy!

Very nice! I bet it's stimulating, too, and causes you to be more productive.

Rather nice! Gives me an idea for when I get a place of my own -- this'd be perfect for an eat-in kitchen.

(Hope things work out with Mr. Flirt-Resistant IT guy, too.)

Now THAT is a cool office (love the artwork on the walls).

Nope, alas, no windows - I'm in the bunker. That's why I originally made that sunflower rasterbation: to give me a window.

You're a woman after my uncle's heart, mgl--orange is his favorite color--to the point where he painted his original house burnt orange (it didn't look as bad as it sounds).

Oh my, I wrote all this...then looked at the date, Dec 2006..and I thought what the...I was at the original post. oops, full moon...

so I'll post it anyways, although your office looks right cozy, really. No fluorescent, yay. From your description, I pictured it much, much bigger, higher ceiling and drearier....an important question to ask...the dimensions. Some ideas may not work.

The exersize was inspiring for me in any event, thanks./

STOP the screen green ]that's the paint they use in film to drop any background into a scene digitally[. Yikes, what with that wavering fluorescent¿

OMG. Your eyes will bug out and by the end of the day, they'll be spinning. Focus, out of focus...ad nauseum.

I know a couple who have a screen green colour sort of like that in their kitchen. The kitchen has windows, but why does the steak look green¿

I like taz's choice..that mural. The colour theme overall. I was thinking light mint green, if you like green. Nice and soothing like a mint julep. ok, I've never had one, but it sounds good.

More importantly, get rid of the fluorescent. Ghastly. A warm stand up tall lamp. For the bulb, get a grow light bulb. An all spectrum kind. They are bright, but the light emanating from them is so great. It's my reading light bulb, which I bounce off the wall. Nice, sunshine in the room effect. You don't want to pooch your eyes out and if you look at your arm and think, I look green and pale, it's because you went with the screen green and fluorescent. Ouch, what a nasty combination.
You want to quit working there, tell us honestly, don't you¿

Before you commit to Any colour. Tell the painters to cut some 2'x2' squares of wood. Paint twice with some colours of choice. Go to office and place them on the floor. This way, you'll see how the colour works with the furniture, office machinery etc. Gad, I hope you have good ventilation, it sound toxic.

If you're leaning to orange, go burnt, earthen colour. Say 993300.

I like the mineral theme, not coal mine — Mica.

If you're going with the burnt orange, just one wall will suffice or wall and ceiling. Too much of a good thing isn't always. Maybe in a deeper red like occhiblu mentions.

Oh, lookat this. I was looking up green screen, but this green screen would look so cool, wavy like that against the wall with lighting from the floor. Oh, that would look nice.
I originally thought an aquarium type wall, where you walk behind the glass and see the sharks....
