I assume this post referred to the NCAA men's basketball championship game between the Univ. of Florida Gators and the Ohio State Univ. Buckeyes. (Not all the wabbits here is Yanks.)
I am in Columbus, Ohio, and so far, it's pretty quiet this morning. I went dancing last nite with the other people who couldn't care less about college athletics (& strained my L quad and knee cha-cha-ing), so I had no idea what the outcome of the game was until I saw the "TWICE BITTEN" headline in the Columbus Dispatch this morning.
"Twice" here means that Florida has defeated OSU three months ago for a different national championship -- that time, in football. (Wearing a UF Gators T-shirt on High Street, along the OSU campus, this morning could get you a mouthful of knuckles, damn betcha.) I'm unaware of any previous instance of two major college athletic programs competing for national championships in different sports a month apart like this.
Also, just to add to the pile on :) Florida is the first ever school to hold the NCAA championships in both football and basketball in the same academic year.
...and conversely, I'm guessing OSU is the first-ever school to lose #1 national rankings in both sports to the same school in the same year?
Not an OSU hater, but I didn't go to school here, and I get awfully tired at times of really bright red (maybe it's the PTSD?) and the incessant boosterism -- it's thicker than flies on sh*t; I can't walk fifty feet without seeing somebody in Buckeyes regalia. I used to think USC Gamecocks boosters were obsessive back in Columbia, but these people make 'Cocks fans look pretty laid-back.
Eh, it gives people something to get excited about. Nothing wrong with that IMHO. It does drive my wife crazy, and she was even an OSU student for a year or so. I could take it or leave it myself. I've been to a few Buckeye football games and had a good time. Of course the tailgating is the best part. Nothing like beer and brats for breakfast.
I was invited to go tailgating, but it seemed pointless without actually attending the game. Tell ya what, OSU: Give me one of your hot coeds and I'll root for you. Uh, cheer for you.
