On the other hand, JFJ is mentioned twice.

Did people not expect them to be shallow?

Everybody's Horny! Stop The Presses!

Wow, The L Word is a lot more popular than I realized.

I really didn't see any evidence of shallowness in that article. It sounds like a blast, frankly.

Gynecologists have known this for years.

Yeah, not really seeing "shallow."

I'm glad that's an actual event, though. I was just writing about it for a newsletter on gay travel, and it's sometimes hard to know what's media hype and what's actual.

Not that an article in the NY Times disproves media hype...

They have to keep referring to 'The L Word' because it's basically the only reference that most people will get. Well, except for Ellen DeGeneres, thus the Before Ellen and After L Word *thing* that they're doing. Like it's now possible that lesbians can actually look pretty (!shock!) now that the goddamn L Word has made it ok.
Basically: Some people are having fun, and others are still trying to get their heads around the fact that it's ok, and really none of your business.

also, if that link was reg. req'd, why did it work for me? did it work for anyone else? weird. maybe i have a secret power...

goddamn L Word ...cos i was sick of typing it, not cos i hate the show.
posted by Zack_Replica 01 April | 12:33
Just guessing, Zack, but your secret power is probably that you were already logged into the NYT site.

Also, '“I’m newly out to my parents, so I decided to come to the most extravagantly lesbian thing I could,” said Keely Thomas, 23, a freelance writer who had driven from Austin, Tex., with a friend in the hope of finding a hook-up.' What does it say about me that I'm sad she didn't go to the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival?

That you have good taste in music.

I dunno about shallow, but I always felt Melissa Etheridge was put on this earth to show that gay people can be just as dull as anyone else.
posted by BoringPostcards 01 April | 14:17
Melissa's OK. Her duet with the Boss on 'Thunder Road' was great. (and my response to box was not meant to be dismissive. Women make great music. Womyn, not so much.)

"Yet market research on the size and scope of lesbian spending power is not readily available..."

Well, at the Paris casino here in Vegas, they have their own les toilettes. Now, THAT is power!

I have got to sign up for that Ourchart site.
