This is a sympathy thread! F@cking tree roots.... I have to have a plumber come out tomorrow (Sunday!) to get the tree roots out of my main line.[More:]

They were out here a couple weeks ago, but they went in through the vent on the roof. Tonight the washing machine backed up into the bathtub again, which is what happens when the roots invade the line. I called the service that did it and they said that because they went in through the vent on the roof, they must not have been able to go far enough down the line. They're going to have to come out tomorrow and dig down to the access panel in the backyard. AND THEY'RE CHARGING ME AGAIN. Also, I'm not sure where he's going to have to dig, and I'm worried that he'll dig up a lot of my garden.

Anway, I argued about the charge, said that they should have done the job right the first time, but she said that it wasn't the technician's fault, that he did all he could when he was out here, and that this techically constitutes another job.

Grrr. I'm going to argue with them more later, but right now I HAVE to get this done. I can't shower for more than 90 seconds when it backs up like this, and I can't do laundry. It's so aggravating.

Oh crap....I was just checking something...I didn't mean to post that. Sorry and sorry about the pipes too. Suckage.

(Actually, that's a hotlinked image, mods, if you wouldn't deleting it. Thanks. Sorry everyone.)

Sorry to hear of the aggravation, mudpuppie. If you have root intrusions as bad as it sounds like, you may need to have the soil pipe sleeved (to prevent the water leaks that encourage root growth). Rootering an old clay pipe, cement or cast iron line, which is already leaking, may actually cause more leakage, and therefore encourage more root growth, and more clogging. Rootering a damaged clay pipe line repeatedly can even cause it to collapse, so you should find out if your pipes can be sleeved, before you have no other choice but to dig. Sleeves are also available in cheaper PVC pipe.

Total suckage. I'm sorry.

You should have some wine. Wine helps.

Also, I'm not sure if this was intended, but when I see "f@cking," I read it as if it were in Bob Dylan's voice.

It's very soothing, in a "Life really sucks, but that's what gives us character, ohhhhh yeeeeeeeah" strummy guitar, resigned and weary moral outrage, folk song sort of way.

I am having beer! And Deadwood! And fretting over my garden's future!

Argue more, but maybe to a different person. Someone will learn something from this.
Even with my crash problems, each one is significantly less catastrophic than the last, so maybe someday it will only every be a week's inconvenience. i always hope all hardware and plumbing problems will be like that, because there's always upgrades and built in emergency plans from the last time you have to go through it.

Wait, is this the Charity Comedy Extravaganza -- Benefitting Mudpuppie's Plumbing Bills?

Or did I stumble in to the wrong theatre?

You act like we live in a world without sewer blood, meat eating robots and glowing rabbits.
