30 March 2007

My mom just called and told me that two URI girls from Warwick were in a car accident last night, one of whom died. She's been trying to call my sister but her phone is, apparently, off. (edited to note: happy ending inside) [More:] I've managed to get the number of one of her housemates from a friend of hers, and she says that Helen's car is not in the driveway. She says that she went to bed around 1, when Helen and her friends were still up. She's calling other people now to see if they can track her down.

When my mom first called I thought "meh, no big deal, she's probably just charging her phone or whatever."

Now I'm really worried.
Oh CF, how awful :( Can you call hospitals and check?

I'd have to find their numbers first online. I'm not sure what hospitals are in this area (I'm at URI too).

Wouldn't they have called already? Wouldn't we know?

Oh yikes, dude. *crosses fingers*

Odds are good it was someone else, but please let us know when you find out for sure.

on preview: Are you close enough to go to her house yourself?

Oh hells, CitrusFreak. I'm sending you good thoughts, and hope this is all worry for nothing.

I am, bp. Why?

Hope you find her soon, and that she was NOT involved.

I misunderstood- now I see you've already talked to somebody at the house.

My goodness... this makes my stomach sink. I'll be thinking of you and your sister.

I hope everything turns out ok, as ok as it can be under the circumstances.

SHE'S FINE!

Turns out her car was parked on the side of the house (where it always is) and she was asleep in bed (where she always is).

{I don't know how you look for a car and a person who are both there and come up negative for both. Did she even CHECK my sister's room? I don't understand, how can you not know she's in her room if you checked? Had you done it right the first time, house mate, that would have been great. ::grumblegrumblegrumble::)

::sigh:: While I will most likely be griping about her roommate all day, I am very, very relieved my sister is ok. Thanks for the positives thoughts, bunnies. They helped.

That was the longest hour of my life.

That was the longest hour of my life

My sympathies. Have a nice sit-down and a few deep breaths. Be thankful.

I've had a couple hours like that in my life - once when there was a good chance my dad was in the World Trade Center on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Turns out he delayed that job and didn't go that day, but the hour was long for me as it was for thousands of others.

Usually when an accident victim ends up in the hospital, the ER staff will track down a family member immediately if someone's brought in alone. Small comfort, but you're right, they'd likely have called very soon if you were one of those affected.

::hugs for miko:: Glad to know I was on the right track with that thought, then. And yeah, it's a small comfort, but good to know all the same.

Hrmn. Maybe an Admin could add a little (NOTE: HAPPY ENDING) or some sort of warning on the front page to let the other bunnies know everything is ok? I don't want to cause people to get all fretful!
