I've always believed that sports fandom is the geekiest pursuit known to man. It involves heavily-debated statistics, passionate borderline-homoerotic fandom, tribal costuming (for players and fans) and requires the absorption of a huge body of historical/cultural lore to be properly enjoyed.* Smart sports geeks know this and abide.

*yes, all of this is true of music fandom as well, which is not lost on me.
I've always thought geekiness was when whatever it is goes meta, when it becomes about itself. Which almost everything is bound to do somewhere along the line. Or perhaps that's just one aspect of nerddom.
Husband is a total sports geek; he's a walking sports encyclopedia. He's a nerd in general. He plays Fantasy Football too, and was the winner this season! That was a nice chunk of change.
gosh, I am constantly talking about my husband. You'd think I liked him or something they way I go on and on. ; )
My husband is just like LoriFla's. His knowledge of minute facts and figures astounds me. He's big into Fantasy Football, (and loved this post, btw.) I lose him every football season.
