From a shrink's perspective: - "[Y]our child is a billion times more at risk from 'pedophilia' with an adult they know (30% of victims have known their attacker for a full year prior to the offense), who is already married with kids of his own that he has not molested, than they are from the registered pedophile who lives in your city who was hoarding child porn in his mom's basement."
Yeah, but that registered pedo with the porn probably has some kids in his family or circle of acquaintances, too. I agree that there's plenty of hysteria surrounding this issue, but that dosen't mean I think we should consider the kiddie porn collectors harmless.

What a bizarre and creepy article. I'm not talking about the pedophilia aspect, I'm talking about phrases like:

Not a day goes by I don't want to plasma gun 50 people I meet. But, so far body count = 0.

Let's face it, a 25 year old NFL cheerleader would sooner swallow her own eye than hook up with this freak, and he knows it.

Don't have time to read the link, but the basic assertion certainly jibes with what I've heard and seen in my own life experience. Creepy strangers are out there too, but most of the people I know who have dealt with molestation or assault were related to or otherwise knew the perp.

I found it interesting in the specific differences between "types" of pedophiles, meaning I learned something from the article. I'm still keeping my kid under my wing though, he has a very small circle of people he's around and only like 3 ever have him when I'm not right there. Then again, I'm part of the hysteria that surrounds the issue and I know it.

Yep, and meanwhile, the nice lady across the street suddenly got cold feet when I was going to have her bring her 2-year-old daughter over for the three of us to have dinner together (pizza) for an initial date -- cold feet on her part, I guess; can't be too careful on the dating front nowadays. I guess I just look like Chester Chester Child Molester. OTOH, I hear she's a lot like this with other people too.

Well pax, you probably don't look like a child molester, but a lot of single people with children don't want to combine their dating life with their children's lives, for good reasons. Kids need a lot of stability and can have feelings of jealously and fear of neglect. Until it's a little more committed, dating is a little amorphous and unpredictable to bring kids into.

Not sure that's what going on in this gal's case, but waiting to meet the kids isn't unusual, so it's probably not you.

"What a bizarre and creepy article." - From his other blog entries, this guy doesn't pull any punches. What I found incredible was his claim that opportunist pedophiles (the ones who don't fetishize kids) are the most likely to kill them afterwards. Whereas, the "classic" pedophile is more likely to want them to move in.

I guess I never really put too much thought into the whole topic. Then again, I DO have better things to do.

There's something wrong with that shrink.

The guy says all this -- that basically, there's no pedophile who can be definitively separated from the general population by a medical or scientific process -- and he still gets anonymous comments like "I'd rather put a bullet in his brain".

I really think most of those people are just defensively overstating things because, deep down, they like-a the Britney.

By that logic, many of our own bunnies are bizarre and creepy...

i don't know who these types are who apparently view their pets as a disposable fashion accessory but this makes me want to cheesegrate their genitals.

Those or just from today, mind you. I don't see how those are any different from the type of stuff the shrink said.

When I was thirteen looking like ten (seriously, I was wee tiny and all), a man used to sit in his car every morning watching me as I walked to school. One morning his car door was open, and he was 'pleasuring himself' and motioning for me to come sit in his car. I pretended that I hadn't seen him, continued walking, and tried very hard to not speed up to reveal that I had noticed, I turned around more than a city block away to read the licence plate number, wrote it down and called my mom from the nearest payphone. She called the cops, and they found that the car was registered to his common-law wife and she naturally said that he would never do anything like that. I asked our neighbours kids if they had seen him and it turned out that all girls, my age or younger had seen him every morning for months and "been creeped out".

So whenever I har that thing about pedophiles most probably in the near family, I think about the fact that that this was just one of my childhood run-ins with creeps. I'm glad my family is very small.

A tangent, but things like this make me wonder about the supposed drop in rapes. Does that mean that rape was actually perpetrated because there was a misunderstanding as to whether it was okay or not or a question of ignorance?
Pedophiles, pederasts, rapists-- are a significant percentage of them mainly opportunistic?
i've had enough escapes from true pedos in my history and harassment--
i'm soo not in fit sobriety to go on about this right now.
